Rajshahi, Mar 13 (UNB) - A court here on Tuesday put Professor Mujibur Rahman, acting ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh central committee, and nine other members of the party on one-day remand for each in a sabotage case.
Judge Mahbubur Rahman of Rajshahi Metropolitan Magistrate Court-1 passed the order after police produced them before the court and sought a 10-day remand for each, said Inspector Rashidul Islam of Detective Branch (DB) of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP).
The others leaders are — Rajshahi City (East) unit Ameer Reazaur Rahman, Moynul Hossain, member of the unit, city’s West unit ameer Abdul Khaleq, city unit ameer Dr Abul Hashem and secretary Siddique Hossain, Rokon Mujibur Rahman, Chapainawabganj district unit ameer Abu Dhar al-Ghifari, Rokon Rafiqul Islam and Taiab Ali, an activist of Godagari Thana unit of Jamaat-e-Islam.
Earlier on Monday morning, members of DB and Boalia Police Station in a joint drive arrested them while conducting a secret meeting in Hatem Kha area of the city.
Later, Sub-inspector Nasir Hossain, in-charge of Malopara police outpost filed a case under Special Power Act.
Following the case, police produce them before the court on Monday and sought 10-days remand for each and the court fixed Tuesday for the order, said the inspector.
In primary interrogation, the leaders claimed that they gathered in the building for their party’s meeting ahead of upcoming Rajshahi City Corporation election, Rashidul Islam added.
