Issue MRP promptly: JS body

Dhaka, Dec 07 (UNB) – The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs Ministry on Monday recommended the government to issue the Machine Readable Passports (MRP) promptly in line with demand.
It also suggested the government increase the number of pages of a passport alongside extending MRP’s validity period to 10 years.
The committee came up with the recommendations following a presentation made over the Machine Readable Passport (MRP) at its 8th meeting.
Chaired by the Committee chairman Dr Dipu Moni, the meeting was held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, said a Parliament Secretariat handout.
It suggested the government to open press wings in Bangladeshi missions in United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Brunei and Malaysia.
It also recommended setting up permanent consulates by procuring land in Dubai and Malaysia.
The parliamentary body suggested the government should arrange the repatriation of the body whenever a citizen dies abroad with its own funds.
Committee members foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali, State Minister for foreign affairs Shahriar Alam, Muhammad Faruk Khan, Golam Faruk Khandaker Prince, Kazi Nabil Ahmed, Md Suhrab Uddin, Salim Uddin and Mahjabeen Khaled attended the meeting.
