Dhaka, Sept 13 (UNB) - The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Wednesday held a branch assistant of Tangail’s executive magistrate court red-handed while taking bribe.
An five-member ACC team, led by its director Nasim Anwar, arrested branch assistant Zakir Hossain from the Tangail court premises around 10:15 am, ACC public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya told UNB.
Earlier, Zakir Hossain had demanded Tk 50,000 as bribe from Swapan Miah and his cousin Akbar Hossain, threatening that if they do not give him the money, their case lodged with Tangail executive magistrate’s ‘A’ zone court will not be resolved in even five years.
Zakir assured Swapan and Akbar that if they give him Tk 5,000 in each hearing, the case will be disposed of quickly.
Later, Swapan and Akbar Hossain lodged a complaint with the Commission in this regard.
In consultation with ACC officials, the plaintiffs went to Tangail’s court area on Wednesday morning to give him the money he asked for. While receiving Tk 15,000, the ACC team caught the branch assistant red-handed.
ACC assistant director of its Tangail Zila office Amir Hossain filed a case against Zakir Hossain with Tangail Police Station in this regard.
