Gazipur, Jan 13 (UNB) – The Wildlife Crime Control Unit of the Forest Department seized 165 caged birds of different species from a market at Tongi of the city on Sunday.
Acting on a tip-off, the forest officials conducted a drive at the market in the morning and rescued the birds while they were brought there for sale, said Asim Mallik, inspector of the unit.
However, the bird sellers managed to flee the scene sensing the presence of the law enforcers.
The rescued birds will be released at the National Botanical Garden in Mirpur of Dhaka, Asim said.
