They also recommended incentives for teachers, awareness for teachers and parents, availability of internet and devices, proper e-contents, monitoring systems and effective data collection to support it.
Eminent educationists and government officials shared their views at an online seminar titled ‘Alternative Ways of Educational Support during COVID-19 and Way Forward for Safe Back to School’ jointly arranged by Save the Children and Campaign for Popular Education (CAMPE).
Bureau of Non-Formal Education Director General Tapan Kumar Ghosh said the government is still facing issues to provide educational support to everyone during the lockdown.
“After the pandemic started, the government took steps to continue education for children through TV and radio programmes. However, there’re still many bottlenecks that we need to overcome,” he said.
CAMPE Executive Director Rasheda K Chowdhury noted that a holistic and inclusive approach is needed for the underprivileged children.
“We’ve to think holistically, truly from the bottom of our heart that to what extent we’re actually reaching the children at present. We need an initiative that is holistic, inclusive and equitable,” she said.
The keynote presentation of the event discussed the effectiveness of Empowering Girls through Education (EGE) project and its challenges.
Designed by Save the Children, EGE is being implemented to address the challenges for the transition of female students from primary school to secondary school.
The project is aiming to support 8,738 female students of fourth and fifth grades at 120 government primary schools from Rajarhat in Kurigram and Madarganj in Jamalpur.
Robi Axiata Chief Corporate Officer Shahed Alam said proper platform, informative content and proper device are necessary to develop any form of digital education.
Save the Children Education Director Dr Narayan P Kafle said all stakeholders must work together to get a complete education strategy for the country.
