The father of the victim, 18, who succumbed to her burns at the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), filed the case with Shah Makhdum Police Station on Wednesday night.
Victim’s husband Shakhawat Hossain, father-in-law Mahbub Alam Khokon, mother-in-law Naznin Begum and some other unknown people were made accused in the case, said officer-in-charge of the police station Bani Israil.
Police were trying to arrest the named trio, he said.
Following love affairs, Shakhawat married Liza in January last without his family’s consent. However, he later tried to avoid Liza by suspending communication with her. When Liza went to his house in Nachole of Chapainawabganj in July last, Shakhawat fled the house.
Following a complaint, police called Shakhawat and his father and sent Liza with them. The couple stayed together for a few days.
However, Shakhawat again stopped communication with the girl after she went to Rajshahi. Few days back, her husband and his brother-in-law met Liza and beat her up.
On September 28, Liza went to Shah Makhdum Police Station to lodge a complaint over the matter but police did not record her complaint assuming her mentally challenged.
After getting out of the police station, she set herself on fire by pouring kerosene on the body, leaving her injured badly.
The girl was first taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital and later sent to the DMCH as her condition deteriorated where she died on Wednesday.
