The teachers of Shapla Forum, a progressive teachers’ alliance, of Islamic University in Kushtia on Wednesday demanded punishment of the university unit Bangladesh Chhatra League activists as they burnt an effigy of forum’s general secretary.
A group of 20 to 30 teachers went to the vice-chancellor, Professor M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari, and demanded punishment of the activists.
They would go for tougher movement if the university authorities failed to take stern action against them within 10 hours, they added.
Earlier, a group of 40 to 50 IU BCL unit activists brought out a procession on Tuesday and burnt the effigy of Professor M Mahbubar Rahman for his alleged involvement with Shibir.
IU vice-chancellor Professor Rashid Askari said that administrative action will be taken over the matter after investigation.
