In Netrakona, the madrasa teacher was held in Durgapur upazila as he reportedly raped his teenage domestic help whereby she became five months pregnant.
The arrestee is Shafiullah alias Emdad Belali, 40, teacher of Madhuakona AU Alim Madrasa.
The rape allegation came to the fore on August 18 when locals tried to settle it but failed.
On Tuesday, victim’s mother filed a case against the teacher and around 2am on Wednesday, police arrested the accused, said officer-in-charge of Durgapur Police Station Mir Mahbub.
In Chandpur, police arrested a leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) he attacked a rape victim for filing a rape case against him in Shahrasti upazila.
The arrestee was identified as Sohel Hossain, general secretary of upazila unit BCL and son of Ahsanullah of Bolshid village in upazila.
Quoting the victim’s father, officer-in-charge of Shahrasti Police Station Mohammad Shah Alam said Sohel raped the victim several times promising to marry her.
Sohel got agitated when the girl’s father filed a case against him on Tuesday for his refusal to marry her.
In the early hours of Wednesday, Sohel and his accomplices went to the victim’s house and warned the family of dire consequences if they did not withdraw the case.
However, locals caught the BCL leader and informed police.
Sohel was sent to jail after he was produced before a court in the afternoon. The victim was also sent to Sadar Hospital for medical test.
In Tangail, two young men, suspected to be involved in the gang-rape of a teenage girl in Narayanganj, were arrested by Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in the early hours.
The arrestees were identified as Md Abdul Quader, 19, son of late SM Samad, and his associate Abu Bakar Siddique, 23, son of late Mizan of Fatullah in Narayanganj.
According to Rab-11, the victim’s family resides in Railway Station area of Narayanganj. The teenager went to buy oil on the night of August 28 when Quader and Bakar took her to a nearby field and raped her.
The victim’s mother filed a case with Fatullah Police Station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act on August 29.
In Jashore, three people were arrested in the early hours of Wednesday for their alleged involvement in the gang-rape of a woman in Sharsha upazila.
The arrestees are Quamrul Islam, 40, a police informer, Omar Ali, 50, and Abdul Latif, 48, of the upazila.
Mohammad Moniruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Sharsha Police Station, said the victim filed a case against four people, including the trio, on Tuesday night.
Later, police arrested the trio in separate drives.
According to the case statement, Quamrul and three others went to the victim’s house at Laxmanpur village in the upazila on Monday night and raped her.
The victim has undergone medical test at Jessore General Hospital.
Meanwhile, it was alleged that in-charge of Gorpara police camp sub-inspector Khairul, who was withdrawn, is the main accused but he was not named in the case.
Contacted, Additional Superintendent of Police Salauddin Shikder said the police officer was presented before the victim on Tuesday night but she did not identify as the accused.
As asked why he was withdrawn if he was not involved in the gang-rape, Salauddin said they did it for the sake of proper investigation as a three-member committee was formed to look into the incident.
