Mukti, 22, daughter of freedom fighter Mozammel Haque of Nagdemra village in Santhia upazila, was a second-year student of Philosophy in Pabna Edward College.
Mukti, who suffered 65 percent burn injuries, succumbed to her injuries at the intensive Care Unit of the DMCH around 1:00am, said Partha Sankar Pal, residential surgeon of DMCH.
Locals said Mukti’s father had a longstanding enmity with Abdus Salam, influential local leader of Awami League over a water body in the village.
On August 19, at least 30/40 people led by Salam attacked on Mozammel Haque's house when all the male members of the family were outside.
They dragged Mukti out of her house and poured patrol on her body and set her on fire.
The miscreants also beat up her cousin Afroza Khatun while she tried to save her and torched a room of Mozammel’s house.
Mukti was taken to local hospital and then shifted to DMCH as her condition deteriorated.
Victim's father filed a case on August 20, accusing 32 people with Santhia Police Station.
Police arrested 24 people, but yet to catch the prime accused, said officer-in-charge of Santhis Police Station.
Soon the main accused will be put behind the bars, he assured.
Meanwhile, locals and different organisations staged demonstration at Press Club in the city protesting Mukti’s death and demanded justice for her.
