Whip Md Shahiduzzaman Sarker moved the motion in the House, which was adopted by voice vote after a marathon discussion over it.
The Prime Minister received ‘Humanitarian Award’ from Inter Press Service News Agency, UN and ‘Special Distinction Awards for Leadership’ from Global Hope Coalition— during her recent visit to the USA to attend the 73rd session of the United National General Assembly.
The Inter Press Service (IPS), one of the world’s leading news agencies, and the Global Hope Coalition, a network of three not-for-profit foundations based in New York, Zurich and Hong Kong honoured her with the two awards for her humanitarian and responsible policy in hosting the Rohingyas and for her farsighted leadership over the Rohingya issue respectively.
In the proposal, the Whip said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s humanitarian and liberal attitude, her bold leadership and thought over the Rohingya issue are being widely praised and appreciated both at home and abroad.
Participating in the discussion, over 40 MPs across the board highly praised the Prime Minister for playing the outstanding role over the Rohingya issue.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith said the Prime Minister is not only the leader of Bangladesh but also one of the three-four top world leaders.
Mentioning that all the thoughts and devotion of Sheikh Hasina is only to ensure the welfare of people, he said, “Getting the opportunity to work under such a leader like her is a matter of luck for me.”
Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed said the whole world praises the Prime Minister for hosting the persecuted Rohingya people. "The name of our Prime Minister will remain written in the global history as long as the world exists for only this step (to host Rohingyas),” he said.
Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali said the Prime Minister has made Bangladesh as a role model for development in the whole world by improving the socio-economic status of people on one hand and brightened the image of the country by hosting the Rohingyas on the other.
Social Welfare Minister Rashed Khan Menon said though Myanmar provoked Bangladesh to engage in war violating the air space, Bangladesh showed patient.
Menon, also Workers Party President, said the Prime Minister did not announce war but opened the border for Rohingyas. “In terms of diplomacy, she (Hasina) has brought a big victory for us.”
Ministers Amir Hossain Amu, Matia Chowdhury and Md Mazibul Hoque, Chief Whip ASM Feroz, state ministers Shahriar Alam, Tarana Halim and Zunaid Ahmed Palak, AL MPs Abdul Matin Khasru, Muhammad Faruk Khan, Mahbubul Alam Hanif, Dr Dipu Moni, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Jatiya Party MP Fakhrul Imam, among others, joined the discussion.
