“We’ve taken mega projects. We want to build the future of the people of Bangladesh. We’ve taken programmes for building a good future of our young generation. To complete these (projects and measures), we need some more time,” she said.
The Prime Minister made this remark during her nearly 50-minute valedictory speech at the last session of the current Parliament.
Sheikh Hasina said it is the people of Bangladesh who can give this opportunity to them to complete the mega projects and programmes. “If they give us opportunity to serve them by voting us in the next election, we’ll definitely be able to reach the goals set for making Bangladesh not only a developing country but also a poverty- and hunger-free one by 2021,” she said.
The Prime Minister expressed her belief that the people of Bangladesh will surely cast their votes for ‘boat’ symbol as they got the touch of development.
She said her government had been able to make Bangladesh free from terrorism and militancy through conducting drives against these menaces.
Noting that a crackdown on drug dealers continues now, she said, “People as well as every family get the respite. The drive against drugs will continue.”
Terming the Anti-Corruption Commission independent, Hasina said it continues its drives against corruption. “InshAllah, if we can come to power for another term, we’ll be able to make a corruption-free Bangladesh,” she said.
Mentioning that she has no personal desire in her life, the Prime Minister said she had to face many grenade, bullet and bomb attacks.“I know I may die anytime. But I’ll keep myself engaged in serving the country’s people as long as I’m alive.”
She said she works hard round the clock not out of her own interest but for the wellbeing of the people of Bangladesh so that they get a decent life as desired by her father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
“So, I’ll request the country’s people to cast votes in favour of us and give us the opportunity again to serve you. InshAllah, this Bangladesh won’t lag behind. Bangladesh is marching forward at an invincible pace and will continue to do so,” she told the House.
The Prime Minister thanked the opposition party and the opposition leader for playing a constructive role in the 10th parliament.
She said no indecent and vulgar word was heard in this parliament. “The negative attitude towards Parliament was removed from people’s minds,” she said.
Hasina said the foundation of democracy was strengthened further and people regained confidence and trust in democracy due to the constructive role of the 10th parliament.
