Firoza Begum, wife of victim Moinul Islam, 39, lodged a complaint with Domar Police Station on Sunday in this regard.
According to the complaint, Moinul, who runs a grocery at the locality, borrowed Tk 60,000 from Moja Mahmud two years back to expand his business and repaid the amount in time.
However, Moja demanded another sum of Tk 60,000 as interest which Moinul refused to pay.
On Thursday last, Moja called Moinul over mobile phone and sought the money.
As he refused to pay the money, Moja tied him to a tree and beat him mercilessly.
Later, locals rescued the grocer and took him to Domar Health Complex, Firoza said.
Mostafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Domar Police Station, said they received a complaint over the incident. “Necessary steps will be taken after investigation.”
