He came up with the remarks while exchanging views with the newly-elected executive committee of Bangladesh Secretariat Reporters’ Forum (BSRF) at the secretariat.
Talking about Rifat Sharif murder prime accused Sabbir Ahmed alias Nayon Bond who was reportedly under the political shelter of ruling party, Quader, also Road Transport and Bridges Minister, said a standing directive is always there from the party that there is no scope of showing leniency to criminal activities.
“Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is very strict in this regard and the party has been taking action against the offenders, no matter how powerful they are,” he said.
On Tuesday, Nayon Bond was killed in a reported gunfight with law enforcers in Baguna Sadar upazila.
Rifat, 22, was hacked to death by criminals in front of his wife Ayesha Siddika Minni in broad daylight in the district town of Barguna on June 26. The incident was caught on surveillance camera.
Meanwhile, talking about the court verdict that had sentenced nine BNP activists to death for attacking a train carrying then opposition leader Sheikh Hasina in in Pabna 1994 which BNP alleged is politically motivated, Quader said the court delivered the verdict. “The government has nothing to do with it.”
“BNP always stands against court verdict whenever their leaders are sentenced by it. There’s nothing new in it,” he said.
