After a meeting of top leaders of the alliance at Dr Kamal Hossain’s Bailey Road residence, Fakhrul read out a written statement of the alliance at a press conference.
In the first line of the statement, a copy of which was handed to journalists, it was written that, “People of Bangladesh liberated the country under the leadership of Bangabandhu with a goal to establish a democratic country and society.”
While reading out the statement, Fakhrul also the spokesman of Jatiya Oikyafront, said. “People of Bangladesh liberated the country under the… leadershipwith a goal to establish a democratic country and society.”
After reading out the statement, he also announced Oikyafront’s three programmes, including holding national dialogue, to force the government to hold fresh election cancelling the results of the 11th parliamentary polls.
Two other programmes are filing cases with electoral tribunals soon and making visits by top leaders of Jatiya Oikyafront to the areas hit by violence during the election, he said.
Fakhrul said their alliance’s top leaders will first visit Balaganj in Sylhet within a week as an activist of their alliance was killed there.
A BNP leader close to Fakhrul said their party leaders and activists do not take it easily when Oikyafront leaders repeatedly mention the name of Bangabandhu and Father of the Nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at their programmes. “I think statement was written by other Oikyafront leaders, and Fakhrul consciously skipped the name of Bangabandhu to evade criticism by party rank and file.”
