“Our chairman has been suffering from Myelodysplastic syndromes. That is why the haemoglobin level in his bone marrow is 10 g/dl instead of 12g/ld and he is being given blood,” he said.
As his health condition is improving, Ranga said, their party is ready to send Ershad to any country of the world. “CMH doctors will take decision in this regard in consultation with physicians in Singapore or any other country.”
He came up with the comments at a press conference after a joint meeting of party presidium members and MPs at Jatiya Party chairman’s Banani office.
The Jatiya Party secretary general said their party is also ready to send him to Singapore by an air ambulance if doctors suggest. “If necessary, we’ll bring doctors from aboard. But every decision will be taken as per the suggestions of doctors at the CMH.”
At the meeting, he said, a nine-member committee was formed, headed by party presidium member Kazi Firoz Rashid, to maintain communication with grassroots leaders.
Besides, Ranga said prayer sessions will be arranged at religious institutions on Friday seeking quick recovery of Ershad.
Mentioning that their party acting chairman GM Quader will regularly brief media about their chairman’s health condition, he urged journalists to ignore any other source for filing report on Ershad.
Earlier in the day, GM Quader said the kidney and lung conditions of his brother HM Ershad have improved slightly. “Doctors said if the improvement trend continues for 2-3 days, HM Ershad will recover speedily,” he said.
Ershad, also the leader of the opposition in parliament, was admitted to the CMH on June 26 as his condition deteriorated.
The former military ruler has been suffering from various old-age complications, including low haemoglobin and liver and kidney problem, high bilirubin and serious keen pain.
