As of Wednesday, a total of 6,884.30 metric tons of GR rice were released from godowns for distribution in 23 flood-affected districts across the country in the current fiscal year, according to statistics of the Director General of Food under the Food Ministry.
Of the amount, 1,634 metric tons of rice were released from the godowns for seven flood-hit districts under Dhaka division while 681 metric tons for two districts under Rajshahi division, 2,326 metric tons for six districts under Rangpur Division, 770 metric tons for four districts under Sylhet Division and 1,473 metric tons for four districts under Chattogram division, according to statistics of the Director General of Food.
The statistics of show no GR rice was released for Khulna and Barishal divisions as no district was affected by the flood there.
The 23 districts are Manikganj, Netrakona, Jamalpur, Sherpur, Tangail, Faridpur and Rajbari under Dhaka division; Sirajganj and Bogura under Rajshahi; Rangpur, Dinajpur, Nilphamari, Kurigram, Lalmonirhat and Gaibandha under Rangpur; Sylhet, Moulvibazar, Habiganj and Sunamganj under Sylhet; and Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Rangamati and Bandarban under Chattogram division.
According to the latest report of the National Disaster Response Coordination Committee (NDRCC), the Disaster Ministry has so far allocated 26,150 metric tons of GR rice for the flood victims.
