Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on Tuesday said BNP is doing politics of hatred even during the Holy Eid festival.
“It is a matter of sorrow that BNP couldn’t get themselves out of the politics of spreading hatred even on the Holy Eid day,” he said while addressing the silver jubilee anniversary meeting of Dhaka Reporter's Unity (DRU) in Shegunbagicha.
Stressing on unity in the fight against coronavirus, he said other countries are making concerted efforts to combat the pandemic. “In other countries, the opposition parties are giving suggestions to the government avoiding blind criticism,” he added
Regarding criticism over health department’s performance during the coronavirus pandemic Dr Hasan Mahmud said the death rate would be higher like the other countries if the health services were very poor.
“Not only Bangladesh, but also the developed nations are struggling due to coronavirus pandemic. In a developed country like Belgium, the death rate is 15 percent. The rate is 14 percent in the United Kingdom while 6 percent in the United States, 3.2 percent in India, 2 percent in Pakistan. The rate is only 1.4 percent when it comes to Bangladesh,” he added.
Congratulating all the members of DRU on the occasion of its 25th founding anniversary, the Minister appreciated various steps taken by the organisation.
DRU President Rafiqul Islam Azad presided over the programme when Vice President Nazrul Kabir, Founder General Secretary Mustafa Firoz, among others, spoke.
