The committee led by Ahmed Morshed, Joint Secretary of Railway Ministry, would submit their report very soon, he said.
Attending an agreement signing programme with Hyundai Rotem Company of South Korea at the ministry’s office, Nurul Islam Sujan came up with the remarks.
Replying to journalists, the minister said “Currently, the government has no intention to hike the rail fare but we are planning to adjust the rail fare with other transports in future while the facilities of the commuters will also be elevated.”
“The complete management of railway will be brought under self-management, no private railway would operate. Infrastructure development projects have been taken to provide the passengers good service,” he said.
“We are working to eliminate shortcomings in the railway management. Currently a total of 73 trains are operating in country both in government and private sector. We want to bring all the trains which are operating in private sector under self-management after concluding the agreements by 2020,” he added.
As per the agreement, the South Korean company would provide a total of 20 locomotives within 28 months while Bangladesh and South Korean jointly would finance the $80.3 million project.
