The action was taken against Shahnur Rahman after the allegation was found to be true in primary investigation, said officer-in-charge of the police station Ismail Hossain.
The victim, Kohinoor Khatun, 42, of Nightpara Boubazar in the district town, was now undergoing treatment at Dhunat Upazila Health Complex.
Kohinoor said she used to run a food shop in front of the Judge’s Court in the town and ASI Shahanur used to take food from it. She also claimed that he took Tk 60,000 from her as loan.
When she asked for money, the official proposed that she entered into an illicit relation with her, she said, adding that she later served a legal notice on him.
The police officer called the victim to Dhunat Police Station on Friday morning in the name of returning her money. At one stage, they locked into an altercation and he beat her mercilessly and drove her out of the police station.
Contacted, Shahanur claimed that Kohinoor had long been demanding money to him threatening to implicate him in false cases. “To avoid harassment, I had given her Tk 60,000 through a settlement. Even after that, she came to the police station again and threatened to file a case against me. Being angered, I slapped her.”
The OC said the superintendent of police was informed of the matter and later an additional superintendent of police found the allegation to be true after primary investigation and ordered action against the ASI.
Departmental action will be taken against him after further investigation, he said.
