The Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) on Sunday expressed concern over forced leave of 11 New Nation journalists and urged the authorities to pay their arrears and salaries immediately.
It also demanded allowing them to join their works.
DRU president Rafiqul Islam Azad and its General Secretary Riaz Chowdhury issued a statement in this regard.
“With deep concern, we’ve observed that owners of some media outlets laid off their employees or sent them on forced leave though the government urged them to be humane during the coronavirus pandemic,” they said, describing the treatment as unacceptable and reprehensive.
Eleven journalists of The New Nation were sent on forced leave on March 28. When they tried to join their work later, the authorities prevented them from joining and stopped payment of their salaries from April
The DRU leaders warned to wage a united and stricter movement if the media owners don’t stop such inhuman behaviour journalists.
