Bangladesh General Students’ Rights Protection Council (BGSRPC) which led the quota reform movement brought out a protest procession on the campus and formed a human chain in front of the Central Shaheed Minar.
From the human chain, Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) Vice-president (VP) Nurul Haque Nur said: “People of our country are unsafe even in their houses. The state has failed to ensure our safety and security. Those run the country must take the responsibility.”
Describing the arson attack on Nusrat, a student of Sonagazi Senior Fazil Madrasa in Sonagazi upazila of Feni, as a heinous one, Nur alleged that police tried to hush up the incident. “We demand justice for Nusrat and Tanu.”
Dhaka University Students’ Association of Feni (DUSAF), platform of DU students hailing from Feni, from another human chain held at the foot of Raju Memorial Sculpture around 1:30pm demanded death penalty for Nusrat’s killers.
From the protest, Ducsu Liberation War Affairs Secretary Sad Bin Kadir sought Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s intervention in this regard. “We don’t want to see Feni as a place of fire anymore,” he said threatening to wage a strong movement if Nusrat’s family does not get justice.
Bangladesh Chhatra Union’s DU unit President Fayez Ullah who hails from Feni also demanded punishment of those involved in setting fire to Nusrat.
Several hundred students under the banner of ‘Students of DU’ formed another human chain around 2pm in front of university’s Central Library and burnt Sirajuddoula, principal of Sonagazi Senior Fazil Madrasa, in effigy.

On 6 April, Nusrat was set afire at an examination centre of Alim examination allegedly by students loyal to principal Sirajuddoula after he was arrested and subsequently suspended as Rafi had accused him of sexually harassing her.
She was immediately taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday night.
