Dhaka, July 16 (UNB) – Newly-installed Minister for Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Imran Ahmed on Tuesday said assistance sought for arresting brokers involved in sending people abroad illegally.
“I have sought help from the deputy commissioners to arrest the brokers sending people in abroad illegally. I did not give any order to them,” he said while talking to reporters after a meeting with the Deputy Commissioners at the Secretariat.
The DCs have assured me of providing all-out support in this regard, he added.
Replying to a question about the illegal voyage to the sea, “It’s not our work to guard the sea. The brokers who forced people to go to abroad through sea will be arrested with the help of police. But none will be spared if anyone found involved in the illegal business.”
Referring to the harassment faced while bringing the body of an expatriate, Imran said “Initially we provided Tk 35,000 at the airport while Tk 3 lakh more from the Expatriate Welfare Fund but the problem was seen in bringing the body of those who went abroad illegally.”
Steps will be taken to bring the expatriates under registration, he said.
