Members of Akbar Shah police station under Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) arrested Indian national Ranjit Acharya, 52, while he was about to cross the police check post in the area on foot after disembarking from a bus.
At this time, two gold bars worth Tk 9.5 lakh, his Indian passport, INR 2,000, BDT 3,000 and a bus ticket were seized from his possession.
Mostafizur Rahman Chowdhury, OC of Akbar Shah police station, said their primary investigation found that the detained Indian citizen is a smuggler and he used to smuggle gold bars from Bangladesh to carry on his illegal business there.
He has smuggled gold from Bangladesh to India several times in the past, police said.
Case was lodged with Akbar Shah police station related to the seized gold bars, money and goods.
