KOICA will provide US$ 8.93 million grant to develop the master plan for ITS and execute a pilot project.
The project would cover the incident management system, traffic information system, traffic enforcement system, speed enforcement system, traffic management center, servers and communication equipment, and strengthen the capacity of Bangladeshi officers, KOICA said on Tuesday.
In response to Bangladesh government’s request a KOICA pre-survey Mission from South Korea visited Bangladesh from January 6 to 15 for the proposed project proposal for “Improvement of the Reliability and Safety in National Highway Corridors of Bangladesh by Introduction of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS)”.
The team had a series of discussions with all the relevant stakeholders including Bangladesh Roads Transport and Highway Division (RTHD), Roads and Highway Division (RHD), Highway Police, BRTC, City Corporation and other Development Partners etc.
The team also visited the Dhaka-Chottogram highways (N1) by road to see the current highway road condition.
KOICA Country Director in Bangladesh Joe Hyun-Gue and Secretary of RTHD Nazrul Islam signed a document on Tuesday on behalf of their organizations in the city.
Secretary Nazrul Islam hoped this project will create a symbol of long friendship between Bangladesh and Korea.
Joe Hyun-Gue hoped the project will support the Bangladesh government to reduce road accident and control the highway transport movement.
