Jashore, Mar 9 (UNB) – A man was hacked to death allegedly by his rival centering cutting-down a tree at Sonatola village in Abhaynagar upazila on Saturday noon.
The deceased was identified as Abdus Salam, son of late Ranga Mia and a member of Shiddipasha Union unit Awami League.
Sub-inspector Al-Amin of Sonatola Police Outpost said Salam locked into an altercation with two of his neighbouring siblings--Asad and Habibur--centering felling down a tree at noon.
At one stage, the two brothers started hacking Salam with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured. When Salam’s elder brother tried to save him, he also sustained injury.
Later, locals caught Habibur and handed him over to police after a mass thrashing. However, Asad managed to flee the scene, said witnesses.
Meanwhile, Salam was taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead around 3 pm.
On information, police arrested Habibur and admitted to a local hospital under custody, said Alamgir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Abhaynagar Police Station.
