Mizanur Rahman Khan, 54, a photojournalist of Bangla daily “Bangladesher Khabor”, was also the joint secretary of Bangladesh Photojournalist Association (BPJA).
DRU General Secretary Riaz Chowdhury said Mizanur was filing up the form for providing his sample for COVID-19 test when he fell to the ground.
He was rushed to the Dhaka medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead, Chowdhury said.
“Mizanur’s fellows said that he was suffering from respiratory problems”, he added.
His namaz-e-janaza was held in Natunrasta area of Zigatola and he will be buried at Mirpur Martyred Intellectual Graveyard.
A number of journalists have been infected while covering news and a couple of them also died.
On May 6, the information minister said 60 journalists were infected with coronavirus till then.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, the country announced detection of 1,617 more patients in a span of 24 hours, raising the total number of cases to 26,738. The virus also claimed 16 more lives during the period, pushing up the national tally to 386.
