A minor girl is fighting for her life as she was forced to abort after being pregnant raped a neighbour at Mirpur village in Kumarkhali upazila.
The victim, a sixth grader, is now undergoing treatment at the Gynecology ward of Kushtia General Hospital.
Victim’s father filed a case against the alleged rapist, Munnu alias Mustaque, 30, his brothers Manik, 40, Rashid, 56, Shukur, 49, and his sister Monwara Begum, 33, with Kumarkhali Police Station on March 8 over rape and abortion.
Arena Khatun Bharsa, family welfare assistant of Khoksa Upazila Family Planning Office and Senior Staff Nurse Sefali Begum of the Khoksa Health Complex were not accused in the case although they conducted the abortion procedure.
According to the case statement, the victim, daughter of a CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver in the area, was first raped by neighbour Munnu when she was alone at her home on July 26 last year.
He later violated her on several occasions whereby she became pregnant seven months back. The family came to know about the matter after a medical test was done at a private clinic on March 3 last.
“Rapist Munnu along with his family members picked me up soon after learning about the matter. They took me to the home of Arena Khatun Bharsa where they compelled me to abort,” the victim said.
Kushtia Civil Surgeon Dr HM Anawarul Islam said necessary measures will be taken if any government health employee is found to be involved in the incident.
