Cox’s Bazar, Jan 21 (UNB) - UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Myanmar Yanghee Lee is now in the district on a three-day visit to see for herself the Rohingya situation there amid Myanmar’s continued denial to her access to Rakhine State.
She arrived here on Monday noon and visited a Rohingya camp on the zero line at Tumbru Konarkpara in Naikkhonchhari upazila of Banaarban district.
The UN expert talked to persecuted Rohingya women and children, and assured them of remaining by them.
She also talked to the officials of Border Guard Bangladesh to know the border situation.
Later, Lee visited UNHCR transit centre at Kutupalong of Ukhiya in Cox’s Bazar and talked to Rohingyas staying there.
She, however, did not talk to reporters, saying she will brief reporters in Dhaka at the end of her Bangladesh visit.
Lee arrived in Bangladesh on Saturday and held a meeting with Foreign Minister Abdul Momen at his office on Sunday.
