“A number of initiatives are underway. The use of antibiotic in the poultry industry has started to come down. Huge probiotics and prebiotics are being imported now,” he said while addressing a ceremony marking the distribution of awards among the winners of competitions.
Cooking contest, egg selfi and chicken selfi competitions were arranged as part of the three-day International Poultry Show that ends at International Convention City Bashundhara on Saturday.
World's Poultry Science Association Bangladesh Branch (WPSA-BB) and BPICC jointly organised the show.
Mashiur said eggs and chicken are naturally the safest source of nutrition. “There’s no alternative to poultry for living a healthy life,” he said.
WPSA-BB President Shamsul Arefin Khaled said the red meat – beef and mutton – is harmful for health according to physicians. “Chicken is the safest as a white meat,” he said.
Actress Bipasha Hayat also spoke on the occasion. She said she had a little bit doubt about chicken and eggs. “But later I came to know that chicken and eggs are completely safe.”
