Walton received the award in the category of ‘Excellence in Import Substitution’ for reducing or substituting imports to a value of US$10 million or more, said a press release on Tuesday.
Attending the function as the chief guest, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed handed over the award to SM Shamsul Alam, Vice-Chairman of Walton Hi-Tech Industries Ltd. at Radisson Blu Dhaka Water Gardenon on Saturday while Bangladesh Bank Governor Fazle Kabir was present as special guest.
SM Shamsul Alam said, “Walton has been saving huge amount of foreign currency by producing technology products in the country along with working to spread ‘Made in Bangladesh’ products to international market.”
He said that after entering the international market of Asia, Middle East and Africa, Walton is targeting the top electronics market around the world including Europe, America and Australia.
HSBC has been presenting the awards from 2010 to recognise and honour exporters in the country for their contribution to the growth of the national economy.
This year, six industrial organizations, Walton Hi-Tech Industries Ltd, DBL Group, Urmi Group, Etafil Accessories, Western Marine Shipyard, and Mazen (Bangladesh) Industries Ltd, received the prestigious awards.
