“I welcome the student organisations who joined the Ducsu polls. We’ll judge what is going to happen in the elections and the results. But I think a scope for creating a good atmosphere for student politics has created with the participation of student bodies in the polls,” he said.
Speaking at a meeting of Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal’s convening committee at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU), the BNP leader also said the nation and the country will undoubtedly be benefitted if the Ducsu elections are held regularly. “It’ll contribute to creating our new political leadership.”
Fakhrul said student politics was affected by ‘cancer’ for a long time as the Ducsu polls were not held over the last 28 years. “Our factory for producing future political leaders was shut by halting the Ducsu elections.”
The BNP leader said enthusiasm has now created among the new generation about politics due to the Ducsu polls.
He alleged that the current government has destroyed the country’s election system, as it bears a ‘criminal mind’. “He said people didn’t go to cast their votes in the recent by-polls to Dhaka North City Corporation as they lost their confidence in the election system.”
Fakhrul said people are also not showing interest in the upazila elections while many candidates are being elected unopposed. “This means our electoral institutions have been ruined.”
To get rid of the situation, he called upon the leaders and activists of their party to get united and put in efforts to strengthen their organisational capacity.
The BNP leader urged the government to free their ailing chairperson Khaleda Zia from jail to create a good and congenial atmosphere in the country.
