“His (Rizvi’s) comment on our general secretary lacks decency. It’s a fact that BNP now has its presence only in the media, not among people as the party made people its enemies with its wrong politics,” he said.
Talking to reporters after attending the District Correspondents’ Conference 2019 of UNB at its head office in the city, he further said, “BNP’s current politics can’t bring anything good for the party. So, our party general secretary’s comments on BNP are justified. But Rizvi’s comment on him is aimed at hitting headlines.”
Hasan Mahmud, also a spokesman of Awami League, said Rizvi holds one press conference every day to keep him in the limelight.
Earlier on Thursday, Rizvi invited Obaidul Quader to join BNP as its adviser since he has been giving the party various suggestions for a long time.
Replying to a question, the Information Minister said BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s release depends on the court, not on government’s will.
He said BNP failed to make necessary efforts over the last one year to ensure Khaleda Zia’s release from jail through a strong legal battle for lack of coordination among the lawyers of the BNP chief. “I think BNP couldn’t carry out adequate legal fight to have Khaleda Zia freed from jail as there’s a lack of condition and mistrust among them,” Mahmud observed.
He also said BNP got isolated from people over the last 10 years as the party did not carry out any movement on public issues. “The main focus of their movement was on Khaleda Zia’s cases, her release, Tarique Rahman’s cases, his homecoming and caretaker government issue.”
Mahmud said a distance between BNP and people has developed over the last 10 years as the party resorted to street violence and did politics to gain its own interests instead of people.
