DU entry test: admit card download starts
Admit cards for the candidates sitting for the admission exam of Dhaka University for academic session 2021-22 started from Monday evening.
Students can download admit cards from https://admission.eis.du.ac.bd upto one hour before entering exam hall," Prof. Mostafizur Rahman, convener of DU online admission committee said.
Admit card for Kha unit and Ga unit are available for students to be downloaded from 7 pm today while admit cards for other units will be available from 8.30 pm.
This time, a total of 2 lakh 90 thousand 480 applications have been submitted online against a total of 8,035 seats.
According to the latest information obtained from the central admission office of the university, 1 lakh 15 thousand 726 students have applied against 1,651 seats in 'Ka' unit. A total of 58,565 students applied against 1,788 seats in 'kha' unit and a total of 30,704 students applied against 930 seats of 'Ga' unit.
For Gha unit, a total of 6,045 students have applied against 1,337 seats while a total of 7440 students applied against 130 seats of 'Cha' unit.

This year's admission test will begin from June 3 through the admission test of the 'C' unit under business studies faculty while Kha unit Admission test has been scheduled to be held on 4th June,
The admission test of Ka unit will be held on june 10 and Gha unit exam will be held on june 11 while Cha unit exam has been scheduled to be held on june 17.
DU scraps trust fund in late Holiday editor’s name
Dhaka University authority has scrapped a recently formed trust fund in the name of AZM Enayetullah Khan, the late editor of the weekly 'Holiday' magazine after facing extreme criticism.
The university authorities has declared that there will be no effectiveness and acceptance of the trust fund anymore as Enayetullah Khan was alleged of leaking confidential information of war during liberation war and humiliated Bangabandhu in his writings.
DU vice chancellor Md Akhtaruzzaman said, "Establishing a fund in the name of such a person is contradictory to the ideology and values of the university."
Rashed Khan Menon, brother of Enayetullah Khan and also the president of Bangladesh Workers Party, launched this fund to be established at Dhaka University's Mass Communication and Journalism Department.

“But after being informed about some of Enayetullah's previous activities, we decided to scrap the trust fund," the VC added.
On 10 May, Nasreen Zaman, daughter AZM Enayetullah Khan, formally handed over a cheque of Tk 2.5 million to DU treasurer Prof. Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed to set up the 'Enayetullah Khan Memorial Trust Fund' in the presence of Rashed Khan Menon, DU Registrar Prabir Kumar Sarker, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences Prof. Dr. Zia Rahman, and Chairman of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism Dr. Abul Mansur Ahmed at vice chancellor's lounge
After the establishment of the fund, some news media reported about the unethical activities of Enayetullah Khan, and then VC ordered to scrap the fund.
DU pro VC (administration) Mohammad Samad said, “After the brutal assassination of Bangabandhu and his family members, an article written by Niaz Zaman, titled 'The Majors killed the serpent and most of its eggs except the daughters who were abroad' was published at Enayetullah Khan's edited newsweekly 'Holiday'”

"I was shocked that a trust fund was set up at Dhaka University, the birthplace of independence in the name of that journalist whose newsweekly addressed Bangabandhu as a serpent," he added.
DU scribe 'thrashed' by Chhatra League member
A Dhaka University (DU) correspondent of a news portal has alleged that he was beaten up in his room by a Bangladesh Chhatra League activist for failing to mention the name of a BCL leader in his reports.
The victim, Ashiqul Haque Rifat, is a second-year student of the mass communication and journalism department. He also works for 'The Daily Campus' and a resident of Sir A F Rahman Hall.
In his complaint to the university authorities, Ashiqul claimed that Farhan Tanveer Nasif, a second-year student of the department of linguistics and a resident of the same hall, roughed him up on Thursday for not mentioning the name of Al Nahiyan Khan Joy, the president of BCL central unit, in his reports."Nasif and I had an altercation earlier for not highlighting Al Nahiyan Khan Joy’s name in a report. On Thursday, we had an argument over the same issue and he thrashed me," Ashiqul said.
When contacted, Nasif denied the allegation.

Riazul Islam, president of Sir AF Rahman hall BCL unit, said, "I had a chat with both of them individually."
AFR hall provost, Prof Saiful Haque said, "A two-member committee will be formed to probe the allegations. Action will be taken against the accused following the probe report."
Amid tight security, Pahela Boisakh celebrated in DU
Dhaka University (DU) Thursday celebrated Pahela Baishakh, the first day of the Bangla calendar, amid tight security measures.
A three-layer security cordon was put in place during the mangal shova yatra, with Rapid Action Battalion, SWAT and Dhaka Metropolitan Police keeping a hawk-eyed vigil to ensure a peaceful procession.
State minister for culture KM Khalid and DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman led the procession that began from the Student-Teacher Centre of the university at 9am and culminated at the same place.
"To build a harmonious, non-communal and humane society, such cultural festivals are very important," the V-C said.
Fulbiju celebrated at Jagannath Hall
Dhaka University Zoom Literary and Cultural society, an organisation of indigenous students, celebrated Fulbiju at university's Jagannath hall today. A rally was also brought out from Jagannath hall under the leadership of DU VC Prof. Akhtaruzzaman in this regard.
Fulbiju marks the start of three days of celebration and rituals through which the indigenous peoples of Bangladesh say goodbye to the outgoing year and usher in a new one.
Prof. Akhtaruzzman was present in the celebration programme as the chief guest while Jagannath Hall provost Dr. Mihir Lal Saha, Zoom Literary and Cultural society president Ratul Tangchangya and general secretary Nukhowai Marma were present along with other members of the organisation.
Besides, a colorful procession led by the Vice-Chancellor was taken out from Jagannath Hall on the occasion.

Prof. Akhtaruzzaman said in order to achieve the goal of sustainable development, the culture of each and every community shall must be preserved and practiced.
Marking the traditional cultures as universal, the Vice-Chancellor said that respective authorities shall come forward to preserve the cultural festivals and heritage.
Wishing the well-being of all citizens of the country, he said, "Every festival has a humanitarian appeal and I hope these cultural festivals will play an important role in establishing inter-relationships between people."
Prof. Samad appointed as DU Pro-VC for 2nd time
Prof Dr Muhammad Samad, a teacher of Dhaka University's Institute of Social Welfare and Research, has been appointed as the pro-vice-chancellor (admin) of Dhaka University for a second successive term.
A notification signed by deputy secretary Md. Masum Ahmed following the order of president Md Abdul Hamid confirmed this.
Earlier, from 2012 to 2016, he was the vice-chancellor of the University of Information Technology and Sciences (UITS).

Prof. Samad was born in 1958 in a remote village of Jamalpur district and earned his BSS degree from the Institute of Social Welfare and Research of University of Dhaka.
Dr. Muhammad Samad has worked as a visiting professor at Winona State University (WSU), Minnesota, USA for twice in 2005 and in 2009 respectively. He has worked as a Fellow of Katherine A. Kendall Institute of International Social Work Education, CSWE, USA in 2009. He has been serving as the President of Bangladesh Council for Social Work Education (BCSWE) since 2012 and was elected Board Member of Asian and Pacific Social Work Education (APASWE) for the term of 2013-17.
DU admission tests to start from June 3
The admission tests of University of Dhaka for academic session 2021-22 will begin from June 3 with ‘Ga’ unit enrolment test.
‘Kha’ unit intake test will be held on June 4 (Saturday).
The ‘Ka’ unit entry test will be held on June 10 and ‘Gha’ unit test on June 11.
The MCQ test for ‘Cha’ unit under Fine Arts faculty will be held on June 17.
The decisions were taken in a deans committee meeting held at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury senate building on Wednesday.
However, GPA score conditions for admission applicants have also been eased this time.
The students who have science background in SSC/ equivalent and HSC/ equivalent exams can apply for ‘Ka’ unit entry test if they have a total of minimum GPA 8 with the condition that he/she must have at least 3.50 in both SSC/HSC or equivalent exams.

The students of Arts and Commerce background in HSC or equivalent exams can apply for ‘Kha’, ‘Ga’ and ‘Gha’ unit entry tests if they have a total of minimum GPA 7.5 with the condition that he/she must have at least 3.00 in both SSC/HSC or equivalent exams.
Applicants, having science background, can apply for ‘Gha’ unit entry test only if they obtain a total of at least GPA 8.00 with the condition that he/she secured at least 3.50 in both SSC/HSC or equivalent exams.
However, the application fee for the entry test has been increased from taka 650 to Taka 1000.
Applicants can apply for the entry test from April 20 to May 11.
All the exams will be taken on a total of 120 marks of which 20(10+10) marks will be counted from SSC and HSC GPA, 60 marks from MCQ exam and 40 marks from written exam,
The tests will be held from 11 am to 12.30 pm on the scheduled dates.
Following the practice of previous years, DU authority has decided to take the exams in divisional cities of the country to reduce the suffering of students and parents.
Asked about easing the conditions of GPA for the applicants, DU Pro VC ASM Maksud Kamal said "From our previous experiences we came to know that GPA does not necessarily prove the excellence of a student. There are lots of instances which show that low GPA achievers obtained better score than higher GPA achievers in the admission test exam."
6 BCL activists expelled from DU hall for assaulting fellow students
Dhaka University's Bijoy Ekattor hall has expelled six students for life on charges of beating up two fellow students in the hall premises.
The expelled students are Masfi-Ur Rahman, a 2nd year student of Social Welfare and Research Institute, Shofiullah Sumon of Criminology department, Naimur Rashid, a 3rd year student of Mass Communication and Journalism department, Sabbir Al Hasan Qaium, 3rd year student of department of Management, Mohammad Firoz Alom Opi, 2nd year student of MIS department and Abdullah Al Maruf, a 2nd year student of Islamic History and Culture department.

A notice in this regard signed by the hall provost Prof. Dr Abdul Basir was issued on Monday afternoon.
All the expelled are activists Bangladesh Chhatra League and followers of Bijoy Ekattor hall BCL president Sajibur Rahman Sajib.
Earlier on March 26, two students were injured in a group attack in their room (Padma 2010).
When Gunn loved DU's 'Peacemaker' moves
Hollywood filmmaker James Gunn and wrestler-turned-actor John Cena, co-executive producers of the popular American superhero series 'Peacemaker,' has uploaded a video on Twitter showing Dhaka University's FBS Dance Squad performing its opening song.
The American superhero television series created by Gunn for streaming service HBO Max, based on the DC comics character 'Peacemaker' and the 2021 film 'The Suicide Squad' spin-off, has received massive success worldwide.
However, the opening credit aka the series' theme song ‘Do Ya Wanna Taste It‘ by Norwegian glam metal band Wig Wam, has separately become a fan-favourite.

DUAA to celebrate centenary on March 12
Dhaka University Alumni Association (DUAA) is set to observe the centenary of Dhaka University on march 12.
The celebrations will include birth centenary of Bangabandhu, Golden Jubilee of Independence and the 'Centennial Reunion of the association.
The decision on the celebration was taken in a general meeting of DUAA held on the alumni floor of Nawab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate building on Sunday.

According to the schedule, alumni and invited guests will enter the playground at 8:30 am. The inaugural function will begin at 10 am with the presentation of the national anthem, hoisting of the flag and recitation from the holy books. At 3:30 pm, 100 alumni of the university will be honoured and at 4:30 pm, a program titled 'Our Commitment to Alma Mater' will be organized.
A vibrant cultural program will also be held from 5:30 pm to 10 pm that day.

AK Azad, president of DUAA, presided over the meeting while other members of the DU were present.
The centenary celebration was scheduled to be held on January 14 and 15, which was postponed due to the coronavirus situation.
