Khaleda to return home from hospital this evening
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is going to return home this (Wednesday) evening from the capital’s Evercare Hospital after staying there for three days for various medical tests.
“The medical board has decided to discharge Madam (Khaleda) from the hospital,” said BNP’s media cell member Sayrul Kabir Khan.
He said the medical board will hold a meeting in the afternoon to review all the test reports of the BNP chairperson and her health condition before discharging her from the hospital.
Sayrul said Khaleda is likely to leave the hospital for her Gulshan residence around 5pm.
Earlier on Sunday night, Khaleda was admitted to Evercare Hospital for some more medical tests, six days after she had several required tests in the same hospital.
Earlier on August 22, Khaleda underwent Echo, ECG, USG, X-ray and blood tests, as a follow-up after coronary angioplasty.

Khaleda, a 77-year-old former prime minister, has been suffering from various ailments, including liver cirrhosis.
On June 10, the BNP chief suffered a heart attack due to a 95 per cent block in her left artery and a stent was placed there by removing the blockage at the same hospital the following day.
Khaleda spent some time in Old Dhaka Central Jail as a lower court sentenced her to five years' imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case on February 8, 2018. Later, she was found guilty in another corruption case the same year.
Amid the coronavirus outbreak, the government temporarily freed Khaleda from jail through an executive order suspending her sentence on March 25, 2020, on conditions that she would stay at her Gulshan house, and would not leave the country.
The BNP chief was admitted to Evercare Hospital six times since she was infected with Covid-19 in April 2021.
Khaleda’s family submitted several applications to the government seeking permission to send her to an advanced centre abroad for the treatment of her multiple health complications, but the government has rejected it every time as she was convicted of corruption by the court in two cases.
Fakhrul renews demand for ailing Khaleda's unconditional release
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Islam Alamgir on Monday renewed the party's demand for the unconditional release of ailing chairperson of the party, Khaleda Zia , to ensure her advanced treatment abroad.
“You know our chairperson Khaleda Zia was admitted to a hospital again yesterday (Sunday) as her health condition deteriorated,” he told an event here.
The BNP leader said the party has long been on a movement demanding Khaleda's unconditional release and sending her abroad for advanced treatment, but the “unelected and irresponsible” government is not paying heed to it since it considers her as their main obstacle to staying in power.

Govt scared of people's unity
Fakhrul said the nation has been going through a critical time due to the current government’s ‘misrule’.
He said Awami League has turned the country into a fascist and authoritarian one by destroying democracy and all the democratic institutions only to cling to power.
Fakhrul said BNP has launched a movement across the country since August 22 protesting the price hikes in fuel and essentials and people are participating in it with spontaneous support everywhere. “Getting afraid of the movement, the government has let loose the Awami League cadres to attack our leaders and activists and our peaceful programmes,” he alleged.
Besides, the BNP leader said police are firing on BNP leaders and activists and attacking them in different parts of the country, injuring many people. “It has once again exposed the government’s terrible terrorist face.”
“The biggest fear of the government is now that people have forged a solid unity. This unity of people will hasten the fall of the government", he observed.
Fakhrul hoped that there will be a unity of all political parties as well to establish a true government of the people removing the "current fascist and monstrous one.”

BNP renews call for Khaleda’s unconditional release
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Tuesday renewed their party’s demand for the unconditional release of Khaleda Zia for the sake of democracy.
Speaking at a doa mahfil at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office, he also said Khaleda Zia and democracy are inseparably linked.
"She struggled to restore democracy throughout her life. She has now been kept under house arrest by the fascist Awami League government due to her efforts to restore democracy. So, our first condition is that she be released unconditionally,” the BNP leader said.
He said Khaleda is not an ordinary leader as she has become an institution with her continuous struggle for democracy, emancipation and the wellbeing of people by sacrificing the happiness of her earthly life.
Fakhrul wised Khaleda a long life on the occasion of her birthday. “We pray to Allah for her recovery so that can return to us lead us in the days to come."
As part of BNP’s countrywide programme, its Dhaka north and south city units organised the doa mahfil, marking the 77th birthday of Khaleda.
According to BNP’s website, Khaleda Zia was born to Iskandar Majumder and Taiyaba Majumder on August 15, 1945, in Dinajpur district.
Fakhrul accused the Awami League government of 'usurping' power illegally, he said it has destroyed all the hopes and aspirations of the people of Bangladesh by resorting to repressive acts like Pakistani occupation forces.

"They have continued their fascist rule for 15 long years using the state machinery and unleashing a reign of terror through oppression,” he observed.
The BNP leader said Khaleda Zia was convicted in ‘false’ and ‘baseless’ cases while false cases were filed against 35 lakh people. “Our more than 600 leaders and workers have been subjected to enforced disappearance and over 1,000 other leaders and workers have been killed.”
He also said Chhatra Dal leader Noor-e-Alam and Swechchasebak Dal leader Abdur Rahim have recently been killed in police firing in Bhola. “Our leader and activists are being arrested and implicated in false cases every day.”
Referring to a recent report of Netra News on the horrific experiences of the enforced disappearance victims, Fakhrul said Amnesty International has strongly denounced the human rights violations by issuing a statement and urged the visiting UN Human Rights chief Michelle Bachelet to take steps for an independent and impartial inquiry into these 'barbaric' practices.
"There is no reason to take the matter lightly. Many of our brothers were made disappeared and we did not get many of them back. Our over 600 leaders and activists have been made disappeared and tortured. From this programme, we demand that an impartial committee of the UN be formed to look into the matter and take action against those responsible," he said.
The BNP leader said the current government has lost ground under its feet as the country’s people are not with them. “But we know this regime won’t t go easily. That is why we want to mobilise people and all the political forces to remove this government."
Khaleda returns home from hospital
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia returned home on Friday evening after a 14-day stay in the capital's Evercare Hospital for the treatment of her various health complications, including blockages in her arteries.
The BNP chief left the hospital at about 5:40pm and reached her Gulshan residence around 6:10pm.
Earlier at a press conference, the medical board formed to ensure Khaleda’s treatment at the hospital, said the ailing BNP chief was discharged from the hospital due to a risk of Covid infection as the virus cases are on the rise again in the country.
Dr Shahabuddin Talukder, the head of the medical board, said, "Madame (Khaleda) is still ill. But she’s now stable. We don’t want to keep her here (hospital) now amid the surge in Covid cases. There’s a chance of Covid and other infections if she now stays here.”
He also feared that her condition will be very critical if Khaleda gets a viral or bacterial infection. “That is why the full medical board has decided to release her from the hospital.”
The physician said if there is any complications further, she will be admitted to the hospital immediately.
“Bleeding complication is now a very challenging matter for her. As she has a liver cirrhosis problem, she is now at high risk of bleeding. We overcame her kidney complications. There are still two blockages in her coronary arteries,” he said.
Prof Shahabuddin said Khaleda will have to be kept under full monitoring though she is going to stay at home.
He said the doctors will ensure her proper treatment at her residence.
Replying to a question, Dr Shahabuddin said they identified three blockages, including a culprit one with 95 percent block, in the BNP chief’s arteries.
As per the international medical guideline practice, he said they set up a stent removing only the culprit blockage which was causing her chest pain and heart failure.
The physicians said the BNP chairperson was facing renal and heart failure while they were removing her blockage. “Her kidneys could have been totally shut down had we tried to remove two other blockages. That's why we didn't remove those blockages."

He also said they treated Khaleda by overcoming many challenges as she has liver cirrhosis, diabetes, kidney problem and other comorbidities. “We all were shaky while treating her due to various challenges.”

Another medical board member Professor AFM Siddiqui said the BNP chief has many critical illnesses, including renal failure, chances of bleeding and liver cirrhosis.
Stating that there is no treatment for liver cirrhosis in the country, he said they just stopped the bleeding spots through ligation. “But we have not been able to follow up on them. It’s becoming riskier to follow up now due to her cardiac condition.”
The physician said they have long been repeatedly talking about sending Khaleda to an advanced centre for her comprehensive treatment of all critical diseases. “We don’t have that kind of centre and measures. That is why we have been saying that her proper and complete treatment is not possible in our country.”
Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, a personal doctor of Khaleda, said the BNP chief and her family members thanked all, including doctors, nurses, paramedics and everyone involved with the management of the hospital, for providing her treatment with sincerity.
He said the BNP chief also urged the country’s people to pray for her speedy recovery.
