Brace for monsoon showers!
The weather department has predicted showers across Bangladesh in the next 24 hours, with monsoon being fairly active over the country and moderate to strong elsewhere over the North Bay.
“Light to moderate rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty winds is likely to occur at many places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at a few places over Dhaka, Khulna and Barishal divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places over the country,” the department said in its bulletin on Thursday morning.
Day and night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged over the country.

Rainfall activity may continue for the next two days, it added.
The weather office recorded the highest rainfall at 109mm in Cox’s Bazar in 24 hours till 6am on Thursday.
The highest temperature was recorded at 35.2 degrees Celsius in Ishwardi of Rajshahi division, while the lowest temperature was recorded at 25 degrees in Sitakunda of Chattogram division.
The monsoon trough runs through Panjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal to Assam across central parts of Bangladesh, as per the bulletin.
One of its associated troughs extends up to the Northeast Bay, it added.
Monsoon showers likely in parts of country
The weather department has predicted showers in parts of Bangladesh in next 24 hours commencing 9am on Monday as Monsoon is fairly active over Bangladesh and moderate elsewhere over North Bay.
“Light to moderate rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at many places over Rangpur, Mymensingh, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at a few places over Dhaka, Rajshahi and Khulna divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places over the country,” the department said in its bulletin Monday morning.
Day temperature may rise slightly over western part and it may remain nearly unchanged elsewhere over the country. Night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country, it added.

The weather office recorded the highest rainfall at 81mm in Patuakhali of Barishal division in 24 hours till 6am on Monday.
The highest temperature was recorded at 33 degrees Celsius in Rajshahi, while the lowest temperature was recorded at 24 degree Celcius in Sitakunda.
The axis of monsoon trough runs through Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal to Assam across central part of Bangladesh.
One of its associated troughs extends upto Northwest Bay, as per the bulletin.
Sylhet records highest rainfall in June in 62 years
Sylhet district recorded the highest rainfall in June in 62 years, said officials of Sylhet Weather Observatory Office.
The district recorded 2456.02 mm of rainfall last month, the highest rainfall recorded after 1956, it said.
The average rainfall in June in the district is 818.4 mm but it experienced 2456.02 mm rains which is 77.78% higher than average, it said.
Syed Ahmed Chowdhury, Senior Meteorologist of Sylhet Weather Observatory office, said “In June Sylhet district experienced an unnatural rainfall. Showers are seen 22 days of the month on average but it rained 28 days this June. 303.6 mm of rainfall was recorded in a single day on June 18.”

In 2004, 1394 mm of rainfall was recorded in June in Sylhet, he said.
Flood situation in Sylhet
The overall flood situation in Sylhet continued to improve with the fall of waters in all major rivers.
At 6pm on Monday, the Surma was flowing 34 cm above the danger level after its water level dropped 8 cm in 24 hours, according to the district Water Development Board (WDB).
Though the water level of the Kushiara river increased a little bit at Amalshid point.
However, flood survivors across the northeastern district continue to suffer from the deluge. While many have taken refuge in makeshift shelters, others are staying in tents on the highway and roads.
According to the local administration, 29,99,433 members of 4,84,383 families have been affected by the flood while 40,000 dwelling houses were destroyed.
SM Shahidul Islam, the river water in most of the point has started to recede but in a slow process.

Government allocation
The government has provided Tk 2.57 crore till July 3 for the flood-hit people in Sylhet. Besides, 1,612 metric tonnes of rice were also disbursed among the flood- affected people, said Sylhet Deputy Commissioner Md Mujibur Rahman.
Besides, the government also provided Tk 10 lakh for baby food and fodder each and 20,218 packets of dry food.
A letter was also sent to the authorities concerned seeking Tk 50 lakh cash, Tk 20 lakh for baby food and animal feed to tackle the post-flood situation, said Mujibur.

More rains are likely to drench Bangladesh in the next 24 hours, with monsoon being fairly active over the country and moderate over the North Bay, the weather department said Monday.
“Light to moderate rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at many places over Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions; at a few places over Dhaka and Chattogram divisions and at one or two places over Rajshahi, Khulna and Barishal divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls at isolated places over the Rangpur, Mymensingh, Chattogram & Sylhet divisions,” the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said in its forecast.

The Met office recorded the highest 103mm rainfall in Tetulia of Rangpur in 24 hours till 6am today (Monday).
Meanwhile, the flood situation in the northern region and low-lying areas of the central region may improve, but it may continue for more days due to heavy rainfall at the end of June or first week of July, according to Bangladesh Weather Observatory Team (BWOT), an independent weather research group.

The flood situation is unlikely to worsen further as the rainfall may not continue for a longer period, it added.
Besides, the water levels of the major rivers in the country is falling, said the Flood Forecasting & Warning Centre of the Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) in their latest bulletin.

The flood situation in the northern region and low-lying areas of the central region may remain unchanged due to heavy rainfall at the end of June or first week of July, according to Bangladesh Weather Observatory Team (BWOT).
Moderate rain is likely in north and north-eastern region of the country from Sunday night, said BWOT, an independent weather research group.
Besides, more rains are likely to drench Bangladesh in the next 24 hours, with monsoon being fairly active over the country and moderate over the North Bay, the weather department said Sunday.

Flooding to get worse as more rainfall headed for key region
The flood situation in Sylhet, Sunamganj, and Netrokona districts may further deteriorate in the next 24 hours, according to the Flood Forecasting & Warning Centre's latest bulletin.
According to the forecast circulated Saturday afternoon, water levels in all major rivers of the country continued rising, except the Surma in Sylhet - although may just have been due to being way over the red mark already.
Another transboundary river that was flowing way past its danger mark, the Teesta, may also normalise a bit, remaining near or slightly above its danger mark in the next 24 hours.

As a result, the flood condition may deteriorate in the low-lying areas of Kurigram, Gaibandha, Bogura, Sirajganj, Jamalpur, Lalmonirhat, Nilphamari, and Rangpur districts.
As important as the forecast for Bangladesh, medium to heavy and even very heavy rainfall is predicted in the north-eastern region of India, over parts of Assam, Meghalaya, and the Sub-Himalayan parts of West Bengal, in the next 72 hours.

Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) on Friday forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at some places over Chattogram, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions.
“Heavy (44-88 mm/day) to very heavy (89 mm/day) rainfall is likely to occur at some places over Chattogram, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions during next 24 hours as of 12pm on Saturday, said a met office release on Friday.

Meanwhile, maritime ports in Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra have been advised to hoist local cautionary signal three.

Squally weather is likely to affect the maritime ports, the North Bay, and the adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh, said the Met office.
"All fishing boats and trawlers in the North Bay have been advised to come close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice," it added.
Brace for early monsoon showers
Early monsoon showers are likely to drench parts of the country in the next 24 hours, the weather department has said.
“Light to moderate rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at many places over Rangpur, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, at a few places over Rajshahi and Barishal divisions and at one or two places over Khulna division with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places over the country,” the Met office said in its bulletin.

The maximum rainfall was recorded in Cox’s Bazar district at 42 mm, while the maximum temperature was recorded at 36.7 degrees in Rajshahi district in the last 24 hours till 9am, as per the bulletin.
The trough of westerly low lies over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining areas. Southwest monsoon has advanced up to Chattogram division. And conditions are favorable for its further advancement, it added.

Meanwhile, the maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazaar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted local cautionary signal number three as a deep convection is continuing over the North Bay.
"All fishing boats and trawlers in the North Bay and the deep sea have been advised to come closer to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice," it added.
Deep convection refers to the thermally driven turbulent mixing that moves air parcels from the lower to the upper atmosphere.
Rains likely in 24 hours
The weather department has predicted showers in the eight divisions of Bangladesh in the next 24 hours.
"Rain or thundershowers with intense lightning flashes and temporary gusty or squally wind is likely to occur at many places over Dhaka, Mymensingh, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at a few places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Khulna and Barishal divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places over the country," the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said Sunday.

The highest temperature today was recorded at 34.8 degrees Celsius in Chandpur, while the minimum temperature was 21.2 degrees in Chattogram, Barishal, and Bhola.
The maximum rainfall was recorded at 29mm in Khulna's Mongla in the last 24 hours till 6pm Sunday.

“Light to moderate rain or thunder showers with lightning flashes and temporary gusty or squally winds is likely to occur at many places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions with moderately heavy falls at places over the country,” the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said on Thursday.

The maximum rainfall was recorded in Sylhet at 78 mm in the past 24 hours, as per the bulletin.
Meanwhile, ‘Asani’ over the west-central Bay off Andhra coast moved westwards and weakened into a deep depression first and then into a depression.

It was centred over the coastal region of Andhra Pradesh and adjoining areas at 6am, the bulletin said.
The trough of westerly low lies over West Bengal and adjoining areas, it added.
