Jubo League leader shot dead in Jashore
A local leader of Jubo League was shot dead allegedly by miscreants at Pachakari village in Manirampur upazila of Jashore district on Monday.The deceased was identified as Uday Shankar Biswas, 42, convener of Nehalpur union unit Jubo League and son of Ranjit Biswas.Quoting family sources, Sheikh Maniruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Manirampur police station, said miscreants shot Uday while he was returning to his home from a local bazar around 7:30 am, leaving him injured.

EC sues Jubo League leader for snatching EVM ballot unit in Chattogram:Official
The Election Commission has filed a case against a Jubo League leader on charge of snatching an Electronic Voting Machine’s ballot unit panel from a polling centre during the Boalkhali Upazila Parishad election in Chattogram.
Presiding officer of the centre, Sajal Das, filed the case with Boalkhali Police Station last night against Nirmalendu Dey Sumon, the joint general secretary of Sreepur-Kharandwip Union Jubo League and son of late Gaurang Dey of ward-9.
Confirming the case, Boalkhali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Abdur Razzaque said, an investigation is underway regarding the matter.

Earlier yesterday, the Boalkhali Upazila Parishad by-election was held. However, there was no voter turnout throughout the day. Almost all the centres were empty.
In the meantime, around noon, Sumon entered room-5 of Jaistyapura Ramni Mohan High School centre in Sreepur-Kharandwip union and took away the EVM ballot unit panel from the polling room.
Assistant Presiding Officer Harunur Rashid protested, but the Jubo League leader did not pay heed to it.
Later, Union Awami League President Ratan Chowdhury recovered the EVM ballot unit panel and returned it to the centre.
Police detained Ratan for questioning in this connection and later released him.
Jubo Dal leader hacked dead in Jashore
A Jubo Dal leader was hacked to death allegedly by some miscreants in Jashore town Tuesday noon, said police.
The deceased was Badiuzzaman Dhani, 42, senior vice president of Jashore District Jubo Dal.

Some miscreants hacked Dhani indiscriminately at Chopdar Para in Shankarpur around 12pm and fled the scene, leaving him seriously injured, said Tajul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kotwali police station.
Later, he was rushed to Jashore General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, he added.
No one has been arrested in this connection yet, said the OC.
Jubo League leader held over brutal torture on sexagenarian man in Noakhali
Police arrested a local Jubo League leader in a case over torturing a sexagenarian man from Thanarhat Bazar in Subornachar upazila of Noakhali district in the small hours of Monday.
The arrestee is Abul Hossain Sanaz, 45, president of No 9 ward unit Jubo League of Charwapda union and son of Azhar Ahmed of the upazila. He was the prime accused in the case.
Tipped off, a team of police conducted a drive in the area and arrested Sanaz from Thanarhat Bazar around 12 pm.
Shahidul Islam, superintendent of Noakhali Police, said on July 2, Sanaz along with his associates picked up Sheikh Nasir Uddin Maizbhandar, 68, and beat him up mercilessly at Amanatganj after tying his mouth while he was returning home.

Later, they unleashed brutal torture on him after putting a torchlight into the anus of the victim over previous enmity.
When the man got senseless, they fled the scene.
He is now undergoing treatment at Noakhali 250-bed General Hospital.
Syed Mahiuddin Abdul Azim, resident Medical Officer of the hospital, said the physicians removed the torchlight from the anus after surgery.

Meanwhile, the victim’s family lodged a complaint against eight people with Subarnachar Police and police registered a case in this connection.
8 get life term for killing Jubo League leader in Jhenaidah
A Jhenaidah court on Monday sentenced eight people to life term imprisonment for killing a Jubo League leader in 2010.
The convicts are—Shanti Hossain, Abdul Karim, Lavlu, Abu Zahid Moni, Mizanur Rahman alias Tak Mizan, Ibrahim Khalil alias Idris alias Idu, Mukul and Nasir.

The court also fined them Tk 5,000 each, in default, to suffer six months more igorous imprisonment.
The court also sentenced them to seven years imprisonment each in a case filed under the Explosive Substances Act.
According to the prosecution, the convicts hurled bomb towards Zakir Hossain Mandal Shanti, convener of then Ganna union unit Jubo League, when he was returning home at Kashimnagar village in Sadar upazila by a motorbike on July 7, 2010, leaving him injured.
Later, he succumbed to his injures in a hospital in Dhaka on July 11.

Two separate cases were filed in this connection.
Police submitted chargesheet against eleven people.
After examining records and 19 witnesses, Additional Session Judge Shawkat Hossain handed down the verdict.
Prohibitory orders imposed in Amtoli over attack on Jubo League leader
Authorities on Wednesday imposed prohibitory orders in the Amtoli municipal area of Barguna amid escalating tensions over an alleged attack on a local Jubo League leader.
Section 144 will remain in force from 9am to 12pm in the municipal area, said Amtoli Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mohammad Asaduzzaman. The prohibitory orders have been imposed in view of a meeting called by the local unit of the ruling Awami League in the area on Wednesday.
Two persons, including Abul Kalam Azad, a member of the Jubo League's local unit and nephew of Amtoli Mayor Matiar Rahman, were injured in the attack allegedly carried out by a group of miscreants on May 21.

A police case has already been filed against 15 members of the Awami League's local unit and its frontal organisations in connection with the attack.
GM Hasan, president of the Amtoli upazila unit of the Awami League, and GM Musa, general secretary of the municipality unit of the party, have been named as the main accused in the case.

Since the alleged attack, several rallies have been organised in the area. On Wednesday, the local unit of the Awami League called a meeting in front of Amtoli Upazila Parishad.

Apprehending a possible law and order problem, the local administration imposed Section 144 in the municipal area to avoid any untoward incident, the UNO said. "All public gatherings have been banned in the area," he added.
