Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Saturday urged BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir to stand beside the people instead of spreading confusion during this coronavirus pandemic.
Remain united in fight against coronavirus: Quader
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Saturday urged all political, social, cultural, professional and voluntary organisations to remain united in Bangladesh’s fight against coronavirus.
He made the call at a briefing from his residence in the morning.
Quader said those who are not maintaining social distance are endangering themselves.
He also called for putting up social resistance against those spreading rumours.
The Awami League leader said irregularities would not be tolerated while distributing relief materials.
“Relief has to reach the poor,” Quader said, urging the rich people and party leaders to stand beside the helpless people in this crisis moment.
Meanwhile, he said the 28th span of the Padma Bridge has been installed, making 4.2km of the 6.15km bridge visible.

Quader urges BNP to shun negative politics
Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader on Wednesday urged BNP to shun all negative politics considering the global crisis caused by coronavirus outbreak.
“I expect BNP to help the government tackle coronavirus,” he said while speaking at a press conference at the secretariat.
Quader, also the Road, Transport and Bridges Minister, said the government has taken the decision to free BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia as her family submitted an appeal to the Home Ministry and the Law Ministry 10-11 days ago.
Responding to a question about the government’s earlier stance about Khaleda’s release claiming that it as a matter of court, he said Khaleda Zia is being released following the procedure after her family’s appeal. She is being released under sub section-1 of section 401 (1) of Criminal Code of Procedure (CrPC),
Considering Khaleda Zia’s age and sickness, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has suspended her sentence for six months as per section 401 (1) of Criminal Code of Procedure (CrPC, said Quader.
He urged BNP to find out a common way to save people by avoiding all negative politics during this global crisis.
Quader said the Prime Minister set an example of humanity by taking the decision to release Khaleda Zia.
The government announced on Tuesday that the 75-year-old BNP chief will be released from jail for six months suspending her sentences on two conditions -- receiving treatment staying at her Gulshan residence and not leaving the country -- after 25 months.
Khaleda has been in jail since she was convicted in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case on February 8, 2018.
She was found guilty in another corruption case later the same year, though her party claims both cases are politically motivated.
Don’t do politics over coronavirus, Quader urges BNP
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Wednesday urged BNP to refrain from doing politics over any sensitive and human issue like coronavirus.
He made the call while addressing a joint meeting of the ruling party at its Bangabandhu Avenue central office.
Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, said the government has taken all-out measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus in the country.
He said their party has decided to suspend all kinds of meeting, public rally and seminar until April following the detection of coronavirus in Bangladesh.
The AL leader, however, said the organisational activities of the party will be operated indoors.
He also asked two of its front organisations -- Awami Mohila League and Jubo Mohila League -- to complete their councils by June.
The Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) on Sunday confirmed that three coronavirus infected patients were detected in Bangladesh.
