Shahjahanpur double murder: Prime accused put on 7-day police remand
A Dhaka court on Monday placed Masum Md Akash, the prime accused in the murder of an Awami League politician and a female college student in Shahjahanpur, on a seven-day police remand.
Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Tofazzal Hossain passed the order when DB inspector Yeasin Shikder produced him before the court with 15-day remand prayer.
Police on Sunday arrested Akash, 34, from Bogura district.

AL politician Zahidul Islam Tipu, who was in a microbus, and Samia Afrin Priti, a 22-year-old college student, who was in a rickshaw on Thursday night were killed in firing, police said.
During police interrogation, Akash admitted that he followed Tipu to kill and when the vehicle carrying Tipu reached near Shahjahanpur Rail gate he opened fire on him.
Akash was also wanted in four other criminal cases, said police.
Tipu was a former general secretary of AL Motijheel committee and Priti was a student of Begum Badrunnesa Government College. Tipu’s driver was also injured.
The crime occurred in front of Islami Bank Hospital around 10.15pm when Zahidul was returning home in his microbus and Samia on a rickshaw with her friend, police said.
They were all stuck in a traffic jam in the area when a biker wearing a helmet and a mask appeared from nowhere and fired at them.

The three sustained bullet injuries and were soon rushed to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital, where Zahidul and the student died of their injuries hours later.
Later a case was filed against unidentified people over the double murder on Friday.
Khulna: 10 suspected militants remanded in police custody for 5 days
A local court in Khulna on Tuesday remanded 10 suspected militants in police custody for five days.
Though investigators sought a week's remand, chief metropolitan magistrate gave the police five days for the custodial interrogation of the accused.
The accused are Anwar Kabir Milon alias Middat Hossain, Sohail Rana, Aminul, Kamrul Islam, Rifat Rahman, Abdur Rauf, Md Sheikh Farid, Abdul Alim, Md Rafiqul Islam and Talha Islam.

Earlier on March 18, Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) raided an under-construction house belonging to a person named Alam Sheikh off BIDC Road in Khulna’s Khalishpur and arrested them, said Nimai Chandra, the investigating officer in the case.
Later, the 10 were booked under the Anti-Terrorism Act, he added.
10 BNP activists remanded over clash with police at Naya Paltan
A Dhaka court on Monday granted three days in remand for BNP’s Dhaka Metropolitan South unit member secretary Rafiqul Alam and nine others each in a case filed over obstructing police on duty at Paltan police station.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court Judge Shahidul Islam passed the order after police produced the accused before it and appealed for 7 days in remand to interrogate them.
The other accused are BNP leader Mohammad Ali Manna, Md Mofikul Islam, Sohel Shikder, Jahirul Islam, Kazi Imtiyaz Ahmed Tipu, Mintu, Farhan Ali Rachi, Monirul Islam Sajal and Sadekur Rahman.

Earlier on Sunday, police detained 23 BNP activists including Rafiqul Alam regarding a clash between Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and police in the city's Naya Paltan area.
Later a case was lodged at Paltan police station in this regard.
Quran Desecration: Iqbal, 3 others put on 3-day remand
A Cumilla court on Wednesday placed Iqbal Hossain and three others again on a three-day remand in a case filed over desecration of Quran at a temporary Puja mandao in Cumilla's Nanuwar Dighir Par.
Judge of the Cumilla Senior Judicial Magistrate Court-1, Chandan Kanti Nath passed the order when police produced them before the court with five-day remand prayer, said Khan Kohammad Rezwan, police super of Cumilla Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

The other accused of the case are Ikram Hossain, Humayun Ahmed and Foysal Ahmed.
Earlier on October 29, Iqbal and three others accused in a case of desecration of Quran were remanded for five days, allowing police to further quiz them.
Iqbal and three others – Ekram, who called 999 after the incident, and Daroga Bari shrine caretakers Humayun Kabir and Faisal – need to be questioned further as they have started disclosing facts, Rezwan said.
The previous seven-day remand ended Friday.
Police handed over the Quran desecration case against Iqbal and three others to the CID on October 24.
Police filed a case with Cumilla Kotwali Police Station on October 13 against unnamed people for "besmirching the Quran and hurting religious sentiments," said Cumilla Additional Superintendent of Police M Tanvir Ahmed.
On October 23, Iqbal, Ekram, Humayun Kabir, and Faisal were placed on a seven-day remand.
The prime accused Iqbal was held from Cox's Bazar beach on October 21. He was then taken to the Cumilla Police Lines the next day.
On October 13 Iqbal placed the Quran on the lap of an idol at the mandap. Ekram called the national emergency helpline "999" to report the "desecration of the holy scripture." The incident also went viral on Facebook.
It led to violence and attacks on temples and vandalisation of houses and businesses of the Hindu community in several districts, including Cumilla, Chandpur, Noakhali, Chattogram and Rangpur, leaving at least eight people dead and many injured. Of the dead, five were Muslims rioters who died in police firing.

Police identified Iqbal, the prime suspect of the Cumilla puja venue incident, on October 20 after scrutinising the footage of several CCTV cameras.
In footage of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, Iqbal could be seen taking the Quran from a local mosque and entering a Durga Puja site. He is later seen walking away with a mace, taken from an idol of Lord Hanuman.
A few moments later he was not seen with the mace. He was also seen entering the shrine. Iqbal said he threw the mace into a pond.
Multiple remands of Pori Moni: 2 magistrates seek unconditional apology to HC
Two Dhaka metropolitan magistrates on Sunday sought unconditional apology to the High Court for placing actress Pori Moni on police remand on multiple occasions in a narcotics case.
The two magistrates also promised to court of being more responsible while passing remand appeals in future.
The bench of justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and ASM Abdul Mobin heard the previously submitted explanations by those magistrates during a hearing today.
The two lower court magistrates seeking apologies are Debabrata Biswas and Atiqul Islam.
The court has set November 25 to pass an order regarding the matter and acquitted the investigation officer in the case Kazi Golam Mostafa from personal appearance in the court.

Lawyer Abdul Alim Mia Jewel appeared for the magistrates before the court while ZI Khan Panna appeare for Ain O Shalish Kendra and Mojibur Rahman for Pori Moni. Assistant Attorney General Mizanur Rahman stood for the state.
Pori Moni was arrested on August 4 following a raid by Rab on her Banani residence. A case was filed against her under the Narcotics Control Act the following day.
On August 5, Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Mamunur Rashid remanded Pori Moni for four days for the first time.
On August 10, Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Debabrata Biswas granted a second-time 2-day remand of the actress.
On August 19, for the third time Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Atiqul Islam granted another 1-day in remand for the actress.
Following the High Court's intervention, a Dhaka court finally granted bail to the actress on September 1 and she walked out of jail the following day.
On August 29, one Ain-o-Salish Kendra lawyer filed a petition before the High Court seeking an order on the legality of taking Pori Moni in multiple remands in the case defying an earlier order of the Supreme Court.

On September 2, the High Court asked the two lower court judges to explain why they had accepted the police request to remand the actress for multiple times in the narcotics case.
On September 15, the High Court expressed dissatisfaction over the explanations submitted by the two judges.
Mohib Ullah murder: Three alleged killers sent to two-day police remand
A court in Cox's Bazar Tuesday remanded in two-day police custody three Rohingyas arrested for their alleged direct involvement in the killing of Rohingya leader Mohib Ullah.
Cox’s Bazar Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Helal Uddin passed the order, turning down an appeal by the investigation officer in the case for a five-day remand for interrogation.
The three arrestees are Md Rashid Prakash Murshid Amin, a resident of Block-D8 of Kutupalong Camp-1, and Mohammad Anas and Nur Mohammad, both residents of Block-B of the same camp.

Investigation officer inspector Gazi Salauddin of the Ukhia police station said they were waiting for a copy of the court's order to take the accused into custody.
So far, nine Rohingya men have been arrested in this case. Of them, two have already gave confessional statements of involvement in the murder before the court.
A senior officer of the district police said on Saturday that the Armed Police Battalion arrested Azizul Haque, Md Rashid, Anas, Nur Mohammad from a Rohingya camp. "They were part of the killing squad."
Aziz gave his confessional statement in the Cox’s Bazar Senior Judicial Magistrate's court on Saturday afternoon.
Earlier, five more Rohingyas -- Md Elias, Mohammad Selim, 33, Abdus Salam, 32, Jiaur Rahman, 32, and Shawkat Ullah, 23 -- were arrested in connection with the murder.
Of them, Elias confessed to his involvement on October 10 in the court.
Commander of APBn-14 SP Naimul Haque said that during primary interrogation, Aziz spoke of a total of 19 Rohingya miscreants being involved in the murder plan, "and of them five, including him, were members of the killing squad".
Following the information extracted from Aziz, APBn arrested the three others, said SP Naimul.

On September 29, Murshid called Mohib to the ARSPH office to discuss Rohingya repatriation issues and informed other members of the squad, said SP Naimul quoting Azizul.
They fired four shots at Mohib Ullah, he said, adding that they fled the scene using a lane behind Mohib Ullah’s house.
On September 30, police filed a case over Mohib Ullah’s murder, following a complaint from his brother Habib Ullah.
On August 25, 2019, Mohib Ullah came to the limelight as a leader after holding an assembly of around five lakh Rohingyas.
JM Sen Hall puja mandap attack :16 remanded for a day
A Chattogram court has granted one-day remand to 16 people in connection with an attempted attack on JM Sen Hall puja mandap in the city.
Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate Hossain Mohammad Raza passed the order after a hearing on Monday.
Chattogram City Police Additional Deputy Commissioner Kamrul Hasan said that in the case filed at Kotwali police station, seven-day remand was asked fir 16 accused.
The 16 accused are Iftekhar Uddin, Touhidul Alam, Delwar Hossain, Jabedul Islam, Masud Parvez, Md. Humayun, Md. Anwar, Khalid bin Walid, Syed Moin Uddin, Md. Russell, Md. Sohag, Ayub Ali, Amir Hossain, Omar Faruque, Nurul Islam and Khorshed Alam.
On Friday (Oct 15) afternoon, police arrested 83 people based on the video footage of an attempt to attack the JM Sen Hall puja mandap. Kotwali police sub-inspector Akash Mahmud Farid filed a case against them under the Special Powers Act alleging assault on police and incitement to religious violence. The case was filed against 83 named accused and more than five hundred unknown persons. The next day, on Saturday, 83 people were taken to court. Of them 9 are children and 74 adults.
Mohib murder: Police seek 5-day in remand for 3 alleged killers
Police on Monday sought 5-day in remand for interrogating three arrested Rohingyas who allegedly were directly involved in killing Rohingya leader Mohib Ullah in Ukhia camp in Cox’s Bazar.
Cox’s Bazar Senior Judicial Magistrate court has received the appeal for remand and accepted it for hearing.
The three arrestees for whom remand was sought are, Md Rashid Prakash Murshid Amin, from block-D8 of Kutupalong camp-1, Mohammad Anas and Nur Mohammad from block-B of the same camp.
So far nine Rohingya men have been arrested in this case.

Kanak Sarwar’s sister Raka remanded in 2 cases
A Dhaka court on Wednesday put Nushrat Shahreen Raka, sister of US expatriate journalist Kanak Sarwar, on a five-day remand in two cases-one filed under the Narcotics Control Act and another under the Digital Security Act(DSA).
Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Bakar Siddique put her on a 3-day remand in the DSA case while Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nivana Khayer placed her on a 2-day remand in the Narcotics case when police produced her before their courts with a 7-day remand prayer in each case.

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) members arrested Nushrat Shahreen Raka Tuesday from the city’s Uttara area for spreading anti-state propaganda through online platforms.
Rab members seized a mobile phone set, a passport and some Ice or Crystal Meth from her possession during the arrest.
During primary interrogation of Rab, Raka confessed that she is an active member of a group which is involved in anti-state propaganda, said a Rab press release.
Raka used to spread false, misleading and defamatory information about the state and important personalities of the state through social media to destabilize the country, according to Rab.
According to her statement, several members of the group are involved in various anti-state propaganda from abroad through social media.
She also said she used to assist her brother Kanak and other equal-minded people in such activities.
Mohib Ullah murder: 3 more accused remanded
A Cox’s Bazar court on Wednesday placed three other accused on a three-day remand each in a case over the killing Rohingya leader Mohib Ullah.
Cox’s Bazar Senior Judicial Magistrate Tamanna Farah passed the order in the morning.

Those remanded are Abdus Salam, Mohammad Ziaur and Mohammad Salam.
Earlier, on Sunday the same court placed two accused—Salim Ullah and Shawkat Ullah on a three-day remand each in the case.
Armed Police Battalion (APBn) personnel arrested Ziaur and Salam on Friday from Kutupalong camp and Selim on Friday noon from Kutupalong camp-6.
On September 30, police registered a murder case over Mohib Ullah’s murder following a complaint from Mohib Ullah’s brother Habib Ullah, said officer-in-charge Sanjur Morshed.
Unknown assailants gunned down Mohib on September 29.
He was buried in Lambashia camp-1 in Ukhiya upazila on Thursday afternoon after his namaz-e-janaza, which was attended by a large number of Rohingya refugees from camps in Ukhiya and Teknaf upazilas.

Formerly a teacher in Myanmar, the slain activist was popularly known as Master Mohib Ullah among the Rohingya refugees. He was the head of Arakan Rohingya Society for Peace and Human Rights (ARSPH) at Kutupalong camp.
