The University Grants Commission (UGC) on Monday urged the authorities concerned of private universities to refrain from taking examinations and conducting admission activities online.
ACC director Saifuzzaman laid to rest
Jalal Uddin Mohammad Saifuzzaman, director (Administration) of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) who died from the coronavirus, was laid to eternal rest at Azimpur graveyard in the capital on Monday afternoon.
He was buried at the graveyard around 4:10pm.
During his burial, his body was wrapped in protective equipment while those attended the burial process were also seen draped in personal protective equipment.
The ACC director tested positive for coronavirus seven days ago and was undergoing treatment at Kuwait-Bangladesh Friendship Government Hospital in the city’s Uttara area.
DMP orders closure of kitchen markets, super shops by 7 pm

Bangladesh’s situation better than Europe, USA: Quader on coronavirus
The coronavirus situation in Bangladesh is better than developed countries in Europe and the USA, ruling Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said Saturday.
He made this remark at an online media conference from his official residence.
Quader, the Road Transport and Bridges Minister, said that considering the situation, all kinds of public transport will remain suspended until April 11 to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
But, emergency services, fuel, medicine, vehicles carrying perishable goods and relief materials and ambulance will remain out of the purview of the restriction, he added.
Rickshaw-puller with fever, cough isolated in Kushtia hospital
A rickshaw-puller was kept at the isolation ward of Kushtia General Hospital on Friday after he went there for treatment with fever, cough and breathing complications.
Family members took the 45-year-old man to the hospital around 2pm, said Dr Tapas Kumar Sarkar, resident medical officer at the hospital.
He said the man has been showing such symptoms for the last three days and on Thursday his breathing complications worsened.
Houses put under lockdown after college boy’s death in Satkhira
The local administration on Friday put several houses under lockdown after the death of a college boy from fever, cold and respiratory problem at Narayanpur village in Sadar upazila.
The deceased was identified as Hasan Ali, 20, a 2nd year student of Jhaudanga College and son of Baharul Islam of the village.
Superintendent of Police of the district Mostafizur Rahman said several houses around that of the deceased were put under lockdown following his death.
He also said samples were sent to the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) for test.
The people in the area will have to stay in home-quarantine until we get the report, the SP added.
