Anjumane Al Islah delegation meets PM
A delegation of Bangladesh Anjumane Al Islah led by its president Moulana Hushamuddin Chowdhury Fultoli met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her Ganabhaban residence Thursday afternoon.
PM's speech writer Md. Nazrul Islam briefed reporters after the meeting.

During the meeting, they discussed various issues relating to curriculum and education system.
The delegation appraised the Prime Minister of the absence of the glories of Muslim civilization in different books for schools and madrashas.
The Prime Minister listened to them and assured of looking into those issues.
Paper, printing quality of free textbooks good: Education Minister
Education Minister Dipu Moni on Wednesday said that the paper and printing quality of the free textbooks distributed among students of pre-primary, primary and secondary levels is good.
“The paper quality of the textbook is not bad, the brightness is a bit low. But the quality is good,” she told the reporters after distributing calves among the fishermen registered in the hilsa resource development and management project at Chandpur Sadar Upazila Parishad premises.

Although the color of the paper is slightly different, it is not newsprint, she added.
“If the printed paper is too white it is not good for eyes, it can cause harm to eye sights.”
After the pandemic and the global recession, the textbooks have been handed over to the students at the beginning of the year after overcoming various hurdles, said Dipu Moni.
The remaining books will be distributed among students within the next two weeks, assured the minister.

The Textbook Festival, marking the distribution of free textbooks among students was held on Sunday (January 1).
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina opened the textbooks distribution programme at a ceremony at her office through handing over books to students of primary and secondary levels on December 31.
Nearly 33.91 crore new textbooks will be distributed among 4.09 crore students this year.
10 Minute School launches ‘Online Batch 2023’ for Class 6-10
10 Minute School, an e-learning platform of Bangladesh, has launched Online Batch 2023, a comprehensive year-long study program for students of classes 6-10.
Online Batch 2023 (https://10minuteschool.com/online-batch/) will cover the entire National Board curriculum, through 800+ live classes conducted throughout the year on the 10 Minute School app where students will be able to learn without any distractions, according to a press release.

State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak inaugurated the programme at the BCC Auditorium of Dhaka's ICT Tower on Tuesday.
Classes will be taken by teachers with years of offline and online teaching experience, who studied in some of the most prestigious universities of Bangladesh, including BUET, Dhaka Medical, and Dhaka University.
A total of six subjects will be taught to students to complete their full syllabus in eight months. Students of classes 6-8 will have 22 live classes every month, 6 days a week while students of classes 9-10 will have 40 live classes every month, five days a week, reads the release.

Students of four classes to receive new curriculum books on trial basis: Dipu Moni
Minister for Education Dr Dipu Moni has disclosed that students belonging to classes 1, 2, 6, and 7 will be provided books as per the new curriculum on trial basis in the coming year.
She said this while addressing a Meet the Press-style program organised by Chandpur Press Club at its auditorium, where she was the chief guest on Friday evening.
The education minister said amendments will be made if any mistakes are found in the books printed for distribution.
Urging all to cooperate to make the initiative a success, she informed that books with new editions for four more classes -3, 4, 8 and 9 - will be available in 2024. The remaining two classes i.e. 5 and 10, are expected to receive their new editions in 2025.

Replying to a question from the journalists, the minister said that above all, academic qualifications, merit and capability are taken into consideration, when recruiting newly enlisted MPO teachers as trainers.
There are many experienced teachers who don’t have the capability of training others, she said.
The aim, she said, is to transform education in the country through highly skilled, trained teachers.
Urging people of her constituency to vote for her, Dipu Moni said Banaganbandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s daughter Sheikh Hasina is working relentlessly on her new vision to turn Digital Bangladesh into Smart Bangladesh.
Students to get free textbooks despite austerity measures amid global crisis: PM
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday said although the government has imposed some austerity measures to save public money amid global crisis due to Coronavirus and Ukraine-Russia War, but it did not compromise on printing free textbooks books for children.
“…we did not forget children’s issues, we did not compromise on printing their textbooks, yes, we are trying to save money from other sectors (imposing austerity measures), but we’ve given special attention to printing their (children) books (textbooks),” she said.
The Prime Minister came up with the remarks while formally inaugurating the free textbooks distribution programme at her office for 2023.
She said due to the Coronavirus and Ukraine- Russia war prices of everything have gone up that forced the government to take some austerity measures in public expenditure, but it did not impose austerity in printing textbooks for children and distributing those on the first day of the new year.
She mentioned that the government has defied all obstacles including coronavirus, Ukraine-Russia war and price hike in all commodities.
Sheikh Hasina said that to make ‘Smart Bangladesh’ by 2041 the children will be provided with all facilities as they are the driving force in attaining the goal.
“We will grow our children in such a way so that they could cope in the coming days which will be technology driven and make them prepared to become skilled manpower for the upcoming fourth Industrial Revolution,” she said.
She urged all to give special attention to flourish the hidden talents of children through nourishing their curiosities.
“Keeping our eyes towards that we have to build them as worthy citizens of the country for Smart Bangladesh by 2041,” she said.
The Prime Minister said that prime aim of the government is to create technically and technologically skilled manpower through providing proper education.
“Our full population will be technologically smart, they will not lag behind,” she said.
She said if the children of the country can be built up with sincerity then there will be no force in the world that can stop the development and advancement of the country.
The Prime Minister said that from the time of Coronavirus outbreak till now, children are studying at homes as the government has taken initiative “my school is in my house” through television.“Academic programmes have been conducted across Bangladesh through Sangsad TV. These have been run through BTV too. I think Sangsad TV can always be used by the Ministry of Education,” she said.
She also revealed that the government has a plan to launch a separate terrestrial TV channel for education.

Sheikh Hasina said those who came to power after 1975 did not take any measures to free the people of this country from illiteracy.
In 1996, Awami League formed government and framed the education commission again, she said.She added that they started implementing a project to increase the literacy rate and learning for aged people was also incorporated in it.
She said education is the biggest tool to keep people free from poverty. “So, we took new steps to educate the entire nation and we constituted a new Education Commission.”But, the Awami League government could not implement its 5 years tenure ended before implementation, she added.
After BNP-Jamaat came to power in 2001, she said, they pushed the country back into darkness and this is the reality.
“In the 2008 election, people voted for boat, we formed the government again. Since then we have again set target how we will free the people of this country from illiteracy and since 2010 we have started distributing free textbooks,” she added.
Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Md. Zakir Hossen and Deputy Minister for Education Mohibul Hassan Chowdhoury also spoke at the programme.
New curriculum to be introduced in 2023: Education Minister
New curriculum will be introduced for primary, secondary and higher secondary level students from next year, said Education Minister Dipu Moni on Tuesday.
“The government formulated the new curriculum keeping in mind the labour market at home and abroad. Education from primary to higher secondary level will see a major transformation. As per the plan, the new curriculum will be introduced next year,” she said.

The education minister revealed these information while speaking at a discussion marking the Victory Day at Anima Chowdhury Auditorium in Natore district town.
Textbooks will be handed over to the students in the new year amid all obstacles, she said.
Terming the opposition political parties including BNP, who have started the anti-government movement, as evil force, Dipu said a vested quarter is involved in destabilising the country ahead of the national election and there is no scope to spare them.

5-day book fest at JU draws to a close
A five-day book fair at Jahangirnagar University (JU) came to an end Thursday.
The Faculty of Arts and Humanities of JU organised the fair in collaboration with Traxila Bookshop.
Jubayer Ahmed, a student of the English department, said he could buy books at a cheap rate from the fair. "Our campus is far from Dhaka. So it is not always easy for us to get good books. This fair filled the gap."
Professor Emran Jahan of the history department said: "We want this kind of book fest to take place more frequently."

"Nowadays students just read books only for academic purposes, but to enrich our knowledge, we should read other books along with the academic ones," he added.
Alongside son, mother in Pabna passes SSC exams
A mother has passed 2022 Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exams alongside her son at Sultanpur village in Khanmorich union under Pabna’s Bhangura upazila.
The woman has been identified as Monjuara Khatun, wife of Abdur Rahim, a van driver.
Monjuara’s education was disrupted due to getting married at an early age. She resumed her studies after some 20 years, while in the process of educating her two children. Family members credit her sheer willpower for her success in SSC exams.
Monjuara has obtained GPA 4.93 out of 5 from Shamima Jafar Fisheries Institute in the district’s Tarash upazila, while her son Mehedi Hasan has received GPA 4.89 from the vocational department of Bhangura’s BM School and College.

“I couldn’t study much as my parents married me off 20 years ago, due to acute poverty. I was interested in education once again, seeing my children study. Without my husband’s immense support, I couldn’t have succeeded in SSC,” said an ecstatic Monjuara.
Monjuara added that she wants to study up to the degree level, but is unsure if she will be able to do so due to the economic condition of her family.
Monjuara’s son Mehedi was proud of his mother’s achievement, saying that there is no age for education.
Her husband Rahim was also overjoyed and affirmed that he will support Monjuara’s education at any cost.

“Mehedi is a regular student of my institution. The news of him and his mother passing the SSC exams together is a very happy one,” said Mofazzal Hossain, Principal of Khanmorich BM School and College.
Nahid Hasan Khan, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Bhangura, said that Monjuara’s success story is important for the locality and will inspire a lot of women like her.
Don’t be obsessed with a few famous schools: PM tells parents as SSC 2022 results published
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today (November 28, 2022) asked parents to change their mindset that their children must get admission to the few schools that are famous in order to get good education.
She said this while receiving the result summary of Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations for 2022 at the PMO in Dhaka.
“There are only a handful of famous schools. Many of us think that there would be no dignity, while some think that their children would get no education unless they can study in those schools. This mentality needs to be changed,” she said.

Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni handed over the summary of SSC results and related statistics to the prime minister.
Sheikh Hasina said many noted dignitaries, including highly knowledgeable persons, scientists, civil service officers and leaders in the country studied at district-level schools. Such schools should not be neglected, she added.
“It is easy for the famous schools to show off good results as they deal with the brightest students,” she said.

She said that credit should go to those (teachers and schools) who can groom and develop mediocre students and ensure they earn the best possible results. “They should be given support and should be rewarded,” she said.
The PM stressed the need for close monitoring so that students can get proper education in every school.

This year, more than 20 lakh students took part in SSC and equivalent examinations under 11 boards, including madrasa (Dakhil) and Technical Education.
Of them, 15.99 lakh were from nine general education boards, 2.68 under the Madrasa Education Board, and 1.53 lakh under Technical Education Board. SSC and equivalent examinations began across the country on September 15.
