College teacher murder: Prime accused’s father arrested from Kushtia
Police arrested Uzzal Hossain, father of the prime accused in college teacher Utpal Kumar Sarker murder case, from Kushtia district on Wednesday, four days after the teacher was beaten to death in broad daylight in Savar .
The prime accused of the case is a 9th grader of Haji Yunus Ali School and College at Ashulia of Dhaka’s Savar upazila college.
Uzzal, also an accused in the case, was hiding with his family since the murder.
Although Uzzal was arrested his other family members managed to flee during a police drive.
Police said they recovered the cricket stump that was used in the killing.
According to Md Kamruzzaman, Officer In-charge (OC) of Ashulia police station, based on secret information Investigation Officer (IO) of the case Sub Inspector (SI) Emdad Hossain arrested Uzzal from Kushtia’s Kumarkhali upazila.
Police sent Uzzal to a court in Dhaka seeking a 10-day remand.

Students and teachers of the college alleged that the prime accused killed Utpal, head of the disciplinary committee of the college, in a pre-planned way.
“Utpal sir had caught the student (prime accused) with a girl inside a classroom and informed the family of the girl about the matter, which had created anger in him. That’s the reason why the student beat up Utpal sir to death on the sports day,” said a student of the college.
According to the college authorities, no CCTV footage of the crime was found as the cameras recorded nothing at that moment due to power outage.
The college authorities suspect that the boy had disconnected the power supply before killing Utpal.
Utpal Sarker, 35, son of Ajit Sarker of Engeldani village under Sirajganj’s Ullapara police station, had been serving as a teacher of Haji Yunus Ali School and College for almost ten years.
Man wanted for triple murder held in Sherpur
A man accused of killing his wife and her parents was arrested with local weapons by police from Khoshalpur Putol village under Sherpur’s Sribardi upazila on Friday morning.
The arrestee has been identified as Mintu Mia, son of Hai Uddin of Geramara village under Sherpur’s Sribardi upazila.

According to Biplab Kumar Bishwas, officer In-charge (OC) of Sribardi police station, Mintu attacked his in-laws' house around 7:00pm on Saturday and hacked a total of six people, including his wife, his father-in-law, and his mother-in-law with a poacher.
The three succummed to wounds later in the night.
The deceased are- Monira Begum, 40, her father Mahmud Hazi, 65, and hee mother Shefali Begum, 60.

The attack left another three people critically injured, who are now undergoing treatment at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH).
UP member hacked to death in Jashore
A union parishad (UP) member was allegedly hacked to death by assailants in the Balunda Bazar area of Jashore's Sharsha upazila Tuesday night.
Ashanuzzaman Bablu, 45, son of Rahazan Ali of Mohishakura village, was a member of ward 7 of Bagamchara UP, said Mamun Kahan, officer-in-charge of Sharsha Police Station.

The assailants attacked Bablu when he was sipping tea at a stall in the bazar around 10pm, leaving him dead on the spot, he said.
On information, police rushed to the spot and recovered the body. "The body will be sent to the morgue of Jashore General Hospital for an autopsy," the OC said.
Efforts are on to identify and nab the killers, OC Mamun added.
Husband under arrest after young wife beaten to death
A 22-year-old housewife was beaten to death allegedly by her husband over a family feud in Phulbari upazila of Kurigram on Friday night.The deceased was identified as Afroza, wife of Delwar Hossain in East Fulmoti village of the upazila.Family sources said Delwar used to beat Afroza over various issues since their marriage. A few days ago, Afroza came to know that Delwar had an affair with his ex-wife.On Friday night, they had a quarrel following the matter. Later, police rushed to the spot after being informed and arrested Delwar, said Fazlur Rahman, officer-in-Charge (OC) of Fulbari Police Station.The body has been sent to a hospital morgue for an autopsy, added the OC.
Man surrenders to police ‘after killing wife’ in Kushtia
A man surrendered to police allegedly after killing his wife at Kotpara in Kushtia district town Wednesday night, said police.
The deceased was identified as Ratna Khatun, 35, wife of Roni Biswash of the area.
Nishikanto Sarkar, inspector of Kushtia Model Police Station, said Roni, a driver of a three-wheeler, strangled his wife, mother of two children, to death at his house.
Later, he went to the local police station and surrendered.
Police recovered the body from the house around 8:30 pm and sent it to Kushtia General Hospital.

Police also detained Lili Begum, 55, mother of Rony, for interrogation.
During primary interrogation, Rony said he killed his wife over family feud.
Youth sentenced to death for killing mason in Sylhet
A court in Sylhet on Sunday sentenced a youth to death for killing a mason at Sylhet’s Beanibazar upazila in 2019.
The convict is Abdul Mubin Limon, 18, of the upazila.
Sylhet Additional District and Session Judge and Third Court Judge Md Mizanur Rahman Bhuiyan handed down the sentence.

On December 28 in 2019, Mason Nazrul Islam was hacked to death at Nandirfal village of the upazila after being called through a phone call. Later, police recovered his body and a case was filed in this regard.
Later, the investigating officer (IO) of the case, Sub-inspector (SI) Shah Alam Bhuiyan, arrested Abdul Mubin Limon on December 5 of the same year following the call list of the deceased’s mobile phone. Limon later confessed his involvement in the murder before Sylhet’s first class magistrate Noreen Karim.
On June 29 in 2020, IO submitted a chargesheet against the convict in the court.
Youth stabbed to death in Bogura
A 22-year-old youth was stabbed to death allegedly by some miscreants in the Colony area of Bogura city on Friday evening.
The deceased was identified as Boni, son of Anishur Rahman Babu, a dentist from Maltinagar Paschimpara in the town.
Police said a month-long weaving and textile fair was underway at Bogura Mohammad Ali Hospital playground. As a part of this fair, some youths were selling lottery tickets in front of Taj Pharmacy in the Colony Battala area on Friday evening. Boni bought a lottery ticket from them. When Boni went to put down the lottery into the lottery box, he had an altercation with another youth named Sohan.
At one stage, some others along with Sohan hacked Boni mercilessly, leaving him seriously injured.
Later, he was taken to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital where Boni died after a while.
Police recovered the body immediately after being informed, said Additional Superintendent of Police Sharafat Islam of Bogura Sadar Circle.
The body has been kept in the hospital morgue.
“Efforts are on to nab the culprits,” added the officer.

Trader stabbed to death in Narail
A 55-year-old trader was stabbed to death allegedly by his rivals in Telkara village of the district's Lohagara upazila on Monday night.
The deceased was identified as Nizam Sheikh, son of Peta Sheikh of the village. He was a vegetable vendor in Baradia Bazar.
Police suspect the murder was a fallout of an old rivalry between two groups of villagers over establishing supremacy.

Around 9pm on Monday, a group of assailants attacked Nizam and stabbed him indiscriminately, leaving him dead on spot, said Sheikh Abu Hena Milon, officer-in-charge of Lohagara police station.
The body has been kept at the morgue of the local government hospital for an autopsy. “Efforts are on to nab the culprits,” said the officer.

2 sentenced to life for murder in Kushtia
A Kushtia court on Monday sentenced two people to life imprisonment for killing a farmer in Kumarkhali upazila in 2015.Kushtia Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-1 Judge Muhammad Tajul Islam passed the order.The accused Md Bappy Pramanik and Alamin Sarder have also been fined with tk 25,000, and will have to spend an additional year in jail if they fail to pay.The convicts were present at the court during the hearing and they have been sent to Kushtia jail after the order, said Public Prosecutor advocate Anupam Kumar Nandi.

3 to die, four get life imprisonment for murder in Dinajpur
A Dinajpur court on Monday sentenced three persons to death and four others to life imprisonment for killing a 24-year-old grocery shop owner in 2009.
The condemned convicts are—Rezaul Karim Babu, Sharifur Islam and Atoar Rahman.
The lifers are—Golam Rabbani, Ekramul, Shahed Ali and Jahangir Alam.

Dinajpur Additional District and Session Judge Mehedi Hasan Mandal handed down the punishment in presence of all the convicts.
According to the prosecution, the convicts killed Humayun Kabir, son of Shahidul Islam of Phulbari upazila on August 20, 2009 over land dispute.
On August 21, 2009, Humayun;s family lodged a complaint with Phulbari Police.

Of the convicts, Rezaul gave confessional statements admitting his guilt before the court.
