IPL 2023: Shakib, Litton roped in by KKR
Bangladesh Test and T20 captain Shakib Al Hasan, along with the stylish yet destructive Litton Kumer Das, a top order bat who can also keep wickets, have been signed by Kolkata Knight Riders for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), in an auction held Friday.
While Shakib is a familiar figure in the IPL, Litton has received his inaugural call to the highly lucrative T20 tournament.
Shakib, one of the best allrounders of the current age, went unsold when his name was first called at Friday's auction. Despite his reputation, no team showed interest in signing him. However, Kolkata picked him up for INR 1.5 crores when his name was called again. Litton also found his home with the team owned by Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan, going for INR 50 lakhs.
Litton scored 1388 runs with eight fifties in 65 T20I matches he played for Bangladesh. In domestic level T20s, he played 160 matches and scored 3443 runs with the highest score of 78 not out.
Undoubtedly what made the difference for him this time is the blazing assault he launched against the Indian attack when Bangladesh and India squared off in October's ICC T20 World Cup. Opening the innings for the Tigers after India had posted a stiff target of 186 to win for their smaller neighbours, Das threatened to take the game away from the Indians with a 21-ball 50: the second-fastest by a Bangladeshi batsman in T20Is, next to Mohd. Ashraful, who did it off 20 balls against the West Indies.

Once Das was unluckily run out for a memorable 60 off just 27 balls, featuring seven hits to the fence and three that went over it, Bangladesh's hopes in that game quickly faded.
Shakib's IPL performance over the span of 2011-2021 has been decent during this period, he played a total of 71 matches for two teams— Kolkata and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
He has scored a total of 793 runs with the highest score of 66*, and a batting average of 19.82. He took 63 wickets with the best bowling of 3/17 and an average of 29.19. He has yet to take a five-wicket haul in IPL.
The other Bangladeshi player who will play in the next IPL is Mustafizur Rahman. The Delhi Capitals retain the left-arm pacer.

Bangladesh vs India ODI: Shakib strikes twice, Rohit and Virat out within 3 balls
Shakib Al Hasan had an outstanding start to the first ODI against India, striking twice in his opening over. This proved to be extremely costly for India, as they lost their captain and star batter - Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli - in a matter of three balls during the 11th over.
Shakib surprised Rohit with a straight delivery that he had been expecting to spin - costing him his stumps for 27 off 31 balls.
Moments later, Shakib had another triumph as Bangladesh's newly appointed ODI captain Liton Das leapt to his right and grasped an incredible catch at cover that the crowd of Mirpur would remember for years to come. Kohli was the unfortunate victim, dismissed by Shakib.

When playing against India, we’re often close to the finish line: Shakib
Bangladesh lost an opportunity to beat India in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 in Adelaide. They needed to score 85 runs off 54 balls with 10 wickets in hand, but Shakib Al Hasan and the team failed to do that in overcast conditions on a cold evening.
The rain may be blamed partially for shifting the momentum from Bangladesh to India. Bangladesh were batting at 66 for none when the match was interrupted, and eventually, it ended as a close game that never seemed to be after India posted a massive total of 184.
In the last over, Bangladesh needed to score 20 runs to seal the match, but the Tigers managed to score 14 runs. Nurul Hasan Sohan hit Arshdeep Singh for a six and a four, but those were not enough for Bangladesh to pull off a win.

Liton Das, who was unbeaten for 59 before the rain, managed only a run and got trapped in a run-out. That was the point from which Bangladesh started to lose the match. Bangladesh kept losing wickets after Liton’s dismissal and eventually, they fell short of five runs and lost the match.
Bangladesh lost two wickets each in the 11th and 12th overs after the openers were sent back. Nurul Hasan Sohan, the wicketkeeper-batter, scored 25 off 14 balls but failed to finish it well.
Liton was the highest scorer for Bangladesh with 60 off only 27 balls with seven fours and three sixes. But his effort went in vain as the other batsmen failed to continue on the foundation he laid down.
Bangladesh ended up on 145 for six.
For India, Arshdeep and Hardik Pandya scalped two wickets each.
“It's been the story when we play against India, we are almost there but we don't finish the line,” Bangladesh Captain Shakib Al Hasan said after the match.
“Both teams enjoyed it, it was a great game and that's what we wanted. In the end, someone has to win and someone has to lose.”
Earlier, Virat Kohli smashed an unbeaten 64 off 44 balls and propelled India to a massive total of 184 for six against Bangladesh in their fourth match of the Super 12 stage of the World Cup.
Shoriful Islam, who was picked up in this match replacing Soumya Sarkar, conceded 57 runs and failed to bag any wickets. Hasan Mahmud, the other pacer, bagged three wickets but conceded more than 11 runs an over.
Bangladeshi bowlers were impressive in the powerplay when they conceded only 37 runs picking up one wicket. Hasan missed a dolly from Rohit Sharma at the boundary off the ball of Taskin Ahmed. But in the fourth over, Hasan removed Rohit for two as Yasir took a great catch.

Taskin was imperious from the first over. He bowled out his overs early in the innings just conceding 15 runs. At one point, he seemed to be unplayable by the Indian batters. But he was unlucky and ended up wicketless.
Lokesh Rahul was on fire in the middle. He smashed 24 runs off the ninth over bowled by Shoriful Islam who came to the playing XI replacing Soumya Sarkar. The left-arm seamer conceded two sixes in that over with a no-ball and a wide. Rahul picked up his fifty off just 31 balls.
Shakib conceded 10 runs off his first over but managed to scalp the dangerous wicket of Lokesh.
Virat played some glorious shots after coming to bat after the dismissal of Rohit. Virat and Lokesh added 67 runs on the board off just 37 balls. But, Bangladesh somewhat managed to contain Virat in the middle.
But in the 15th over, Virat hit two fours off Mustafizur Rahman with an inside edge that went past the stumps. After the 15th over, India were at 130 for three with Virat and Hardik Pandya batting for 40 and five respectively.
Hardik came to bat after Shakib bowled Suryakumar Yadav for 30 off 16 balls. The number-one T20 batter was getting dangerous before Shakib trapped him.
In the last five overs, India added 54 runs with Virat hitting a 37-ball fifty and ending up on 64 off 44 balls. Before Virat reached his fifty, Hasan removed Hardik Pandya off the first ball of the 16th over.
With this unbeaten 64, Virat passed the 200-run mark in this World Cup so far.
A dual effort from Shakib and Shoriful managed to send Dinesh Karthik back trapped in a run-out. He has a history to get dangerous in the death overs against Bangladesh.
Shakib bagged two wickets while Mustafizur Rahman conceded 31 runs but failed to get any wickets.
With this win, India topped the points table of Group 2 of Super 12 with six points from three wins, and South Africa are right behind them with five points.
