Cabinet Secretary Mahbub meets President
Cabinet Secretary Md Mahbub Hossain on Tuesday paid a courtesy call on President Mohammed Shahabuddin at Bangabhaban.
President's press secretary Joynal Abedin told UNB that the cabinet secretary apprised the President of various aspects of the administrative activities at his office during the meeting.

The cabinet secretary sought the direction and cooperation of the President in discharging his duties while the President wished the success of the cabinet secretary.

Protect human rights in every area, President to National Human Rights Commission
President Mohammed Shahabuddin on Tuesday asked the National Human Rights Commission of Bangladesh (NHRCB) to play an effective role in protecting human rights in every area.
The president said this when an eight-member delegation of the NHRCB called on the President at Bangabhaban.
Press secretary to the President Joynal Abedin briefed the reporters after the meeting.
The delegation submitted its annual report-2022 to him.

Shahabuddin stressed on taking effective measures immediately in case of violation of any human rights at any corner of the country.
He also put emphasis on the continuation of the follow-up activities of all human rights violations.
Chairman of the NHRCB Kamal Uddin Ahmed, who led the delegation, apprised the president of the various aspects of the report.
Shahabuddin said everyone involved in the protection of human rights should conduct their respective tasks in such a way that the people can understand the significance of the NHRC here.
The president appreciated the overall activities of the commission.
Focus on job-oriented education for employment of graduates: President Shahabuddin urges universities
President Mohammed Shahabuddin on Monday asked the country’s universities to focus more on job-oriented education and research to cater to the need of the employment market.
He said this when Jatiya Kabi Nazrul Islam University Vice-Chancellor Professor Soumitra Sekhar and acting Vice-Chancellor of BRAC University Syed Mahfuzul Aziz met with him separately at Bangabhaban.

The president said that the universities must do more on encouraging the students to take up research and innovative activities, which will be sustainable for the country.

Army chief meets President
Chief of Army Staff General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed on Sunday paid a courtesy call on President Mohammed Shahabuddin at Bangabhaban on Sunday afternoon.
President's press secretary Joynal Abedin briefed reporters after the meeting.
During the meeting, the army chief briefed the President about the overall activities of Bangladesh Army.
He highlighted the various steps taken for the development of the army and progress of implementation.

President Sahabuddin expressed his satisfaction over the activities of the army and said that the development activities of the army will continue in the light of Forces Goal-2030.
Mentioning the glory of Bangladesh army, the President hoped that the army would continue its activities for socio-economic development alongside protecting the sovereignty of the country.
During the meeting, the army chief also briefed the President about various aspects of his recent visit to India.
President pays tributes to martyred members of Armed Forces
President Mohammed Shahabuddin on Thursday paid tributes to the martyred members of the Bangladesh Armed Forces at the Shikha Anirban (flame eternal) at Dhaka Cantonment.
The president paid the homage by placing a wreath at the Shikha Anirban at 11.20am.
After laying the wreath, he stood in solemn silence for some time as a mark of profound respect to the memories of the armed forces martyrs, who made supreme sacrifices during the War of Liberation in 1971.
A smartly-turned out contingent drawn from Bangladesh Army, Navy and Air Force presented a guard of honour at that time, while the bugle played the last post.
Later, President Shahabuddin, also the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, signed the visitors' book there.

Earlier, Chief of General Staff(CGS) of Bangladesh Army Lieutenant General Ataul Hakim Sarwar Hasan on behalf of Army Chief General SM Shafiudin Ahmed, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral M Shaheen Iqbal and Chief of Air Staff of Air Chief Marshal Shaikh Abdul Hannan received the president on his arrival at the Shikha Anirban.
The president also paid tributes to Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib and other August 15 martyrs.
He placed wreaths at her grave at the Banani Graveyard in the capital this noon and stood in solemn silence for some time.
President's wife Dr Rebecca Sultana was also present.
They also spread flower petals on the graves of Bangamata and other August 15 martyrs.
Besides, they offered fateha and prayed for eternal peace of the departed souls of the martyrs of August 15.
President Shahabuddin pays homage to Bangabandhu, war and language heroes
On the first day in office President Mohammed Sahabuddin on Tuesday paid tributes to the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and 1952 language heroes.
He first went to the National Mausoleum at Savar and placed a wreath there at about 11:40am. for the first time after assuming the office as the 22nd President while he also laid floral wreath at portrait of Bangabandhu at 12.20pm and Central Shaheed Minar at 12.30pm respectively.
A smartly turned out contingent drawn from the Bangladesh Army, Navy and Air Force presented the state salute on the occasion as the bugles played the last post.
Sahabuddin, himself a heroic freedom fighter, stood in solemn silence for some time as a mark of profound respect to the memories of the war heroes.
The country was liberated from the Pakistani occupation forces on December 16 in 1971 after a nine-month long Liberation War.

The President also signed the visitors' book kept on the monument'sl premises.
From Savar the president went to Bangabandhu Memorial museum at 32 Dhanmondhi and placed a wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu.
He also witnessed a holographic presentation on Bangabandhu's historic 7th March speech.

The president also visited the Central Shaheed Minar where remembered the language martyrs.
Earlier in the day he received his maiden ceremonial guard of honour by President Regiment Guard (PGR) morning at Bangabhaban before leaving for Savar.

His family members and Bangabhaban officials witnessed the ceremony held at about 10.30am.
A smartly turned-out contingent of the PGR presented him a guard of honour as part of the ceremony while a band comprising army, navy, and air force played the welcome tune.
PM, President pay tribute to martyrs at National Memorial on Independence Day
President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid tributes to the martyrs of Liberation War — placing wreaths at the National Memorial in Savar this morning, marking Independence and National Day.
President Hamid first placed a wreath at the altar of the memorial followed by the Prime Minister.
After placing the wreaths, the President and the Prime Minister stood there in solemn silence for some time as a mark of profound respect to the memories of the martyrs of Liberation War.

New envoys of Turkey, Philippines present credentials to President
President Abdul Hamid on Tuesday received credentials from the new ambassadors of Turkey and the Philippines to Bangladesh in the evening.
Press secretary Joynal Abedin briefed the reporters after the meeting.
Ramis Sen of the Republic of Turkey and Leo Tito L. Ausan Jr. of the Republic of the Philippines presented their credentials.
Appreciating Bangladesh's ties with the two countries, Hamid urged them to play an important role as envoys particularly to enhance trade and economic relations for mutual benefit.
Hamid also hoped that the bilateral relations with the countries will further be expanded during their respective assignments here.

Referring to the losses in the recent earthquakes in Turkey, the President again conveyed his sympathy to the bereaved family members and said Bangladesh would always stay beside the government and people of Turkey at all regional and international platforms as very faithful and old friends in days to come.
On the Rohingya issue, the President expressed his gratitude to the Turkish government and its people for their support in this connection.
Later, during the meeting with the Philippines ambassador, the President mentioned that the Philippines government and its people provided heartfelt support to the 1971 Liberation War and subsequently it is one of the countries which recognized Bangladesh after the Liberation War at the beginning stage.
Terming the bilateral relations between the two countries very excellent, Hamid urged the Philippines government to explore the untapped potential areas in bilateral trade and investment, including pharmaceuticals, agricultural products, light engineering and jute products etc.
The two sides can also explore cooperation in disaster management, health care and IT sectors, the President added.
President Hamid also requested the Philippines government to support Bangladesh’s application for ASEAN Sectoral Dialogue Partnership. He assured the envoys of his all-out cooperation in discharging their duties in Bangladesh in cementing further Bangladesh relations with the countries.
Praising the socio-economic development of Bangladesh, the ambassadors told the President that they would provide their possible all-out cooperation to Bangladesh government during their respective assignments here.
Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen, secretaries concerned and high officials to the President, among others, were present.
Earlier on their arrival at Bangabhaban, a contingent of the horse-mounted President Guard Regiment (PGR) offered the ambassadors guards of honour as part of the ceremony.
The national anthems of the respective countries were also played by the army band and the Ambassadors made a round of inspection of the guard of honour.
Saudi Arabian ambassador calls on president
Saudi Arabian Ambassador in Dhaka Essa Yousef Essa Alduhailan on Sunday paid a courtesy call on President Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban here this evening.
The ambassador handed over two greeting letters to the president on the occasion of "Bangladesh Independence and National Day" from King Salman bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia and Crown Prince Mohammad Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia.
President's Press Secretary Joynal Abedin told UNB that they wished for continued development and progress of the government and people of Bangladesh in a letter.
The president said Bangladesh's relationship with Saudi Arabia is very excellent. This relationship is expanding in several areas, he added.
About Saudi Arabian commerce minister's visit to Bangladesh recently, the President said this visit has opened a door of novel possibilities in the field of bilateral ties between the two countries.He said there is ample opportunity to increase trade and investment between Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia.
Expressing gratitude to Saudi Arabia for providing assistance to Rohingyas, taken shelter in Bangladesh earlier forcibly displaced from Myanmar, Hamid hopedthis cooperation Saudi Arabia will continue in the future and Saudi Arabia would continue to exert pressure on Myanmar to ensure a safe and dignified repatriation of the Rohingyas.
Spread various elements of culture: President
President Abdul Hamid on Saturday urged poets, writers, dramatists, makers, collectors, researchers and other individuals and institutions to spread the various elements of culture.
"We should not allow all culture. Through the proper use of information technology, cultural elements should be collected and spread across the country and abroad. And only then will our cultural heritage emerge in the outside world," he said.
He made this call as the chief guest at the opening ceremony of the Greater Mymensingh Cultural Festival held at National Museum auditorium.
He said information technology has now affected everyone's life, regardless of village or city. The world has become a village due to the free flow of information. As a result sky culture is now a reality.
He also that its influence on the culture of different countries and nations is also spreading rapidly. Cultural thoughts and mindsets are also changing at the same pace.
Mentioning that 'It is our responsibility to make the new generation aware of history and tradition', Hamid said that besides socio-economic development, creative and talented manpower is essential for balanced development including art, literature and culture. Enlightened people can bring positive changes in society.
"If we don't introduce our children to history, heritage, pains and prides, they won't grow up to be conscious citizens with self respect," he added.
He also urged them to trace their roots along with conventional education and also tell about the glorious past.
