Khulna, Oct 7 (UNB) – Despite having huge prospects, the tourism industry in the district remained untapped due to the alleged apathy of the authorities concerned and lack of necessary infrastructures.
Crude bomb exploded in front of Burichong AL office
Cumilla, Oct 7 (UNB) – Miscreants exploded a crude bomb in front of Burichong Awami League office in the district on Saturday night.
A gang of miscreants set fire a tyre in front of the AL office around 10:45pm and blasted a crude bomb, said Abul Chanda Biswas, officer-in-charge of Burichong Police Station, quoting locals.
The miscreants fled the scene when night guards appeared at the spot hearing the blast.
On information, police rushed in and recovered four crude bombs and four Molotov bomb-like objects from the scene.
22-day ban on fishing from Oct 7 in Lakshmipur

Sirajganj, Oct 6 (UNB) – A mobile court here on Saturday sentenced a milk trader to three months jail term after a live fish (locally known as Tengra) was found in a container of adulterated milk at Dahakula Bazar in Mohanpur of Ullapara upazila.
Man found hanging in Khulna
Khulna, Oct 6 (UNB) – Police recovered the hanging body of an unidentified man from Shiromoni bypass area under Khan Jahan thana in the city on Saturday morning.
One killed in Magura road crash
Magura, Oct 6 (UNB) – A man was killed and five others were injured as a human- hauler plunged into a roadside ditch on Magura-Jashore highway at Bhaina intersection in Sadar upazila on Friday night.
The deceased was identified as Paresh Kanti Saha, 60, of Deyarpara area.
Sirajul Islam, officer-in-charge of Magura Sadar Police Station, said the human- hauler, locally known as Nasimon, fell into the ditch as the driver lost control over the steering, leaving its passenger Paresh dead on the spot and five others injured.
The injured were admitted to Sadar Health Complex.
Two women killed in Sirajganj road crash
Sirajganj, Oct 5 (UNB) – At least two women were killed as a speeding truck hit a battery-run auto rickshaw in Mulibari Check post area in the district town on Friday afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Manoara Khatun, 50, wife of Afsar Ali and Chaina Khatun, 35, wife of Azizul Haque, of Konagati village in sadar upazila.
Syed Shahid Alam, officer-in-charge of Bangabandhu Bridge West Police Station, said a Dhaka bound truck hit the auto-rickshaw at the place around 4:30 pm, leaving the duo dead on the spot.
Police recovered the bodies and sent those to Sirajganj Sadar Hospital for an autopsy.
Police detained the truck from the spot while the driver and helper managed to flee the scene, added the OC.
A case was filed in this connection with the police station, said the OC.
