3 including 2 siblings die as boat capsizes in Brahmaputra
Narsingdi, Sep 22 (UNB) – Three children, including two siblings, died as a boat capsized in Brahmaputra river in Belabo upazila on Saturday.
The deceased were identified as Nila Akhtar, 16, daughter of Badal Mia of Jangagua village in Belabo upazila, her cousin, Samia Akhtar, 8, daughter of Saiful Islam of Bansgari village in the upazila and Samia’s brother, Tamim Mia, 6.
The victims along with their relatives went on a pleasure trip in the afternoon, but it sank due to strong current in the river, said Jabed Mahmud, officer-in-charge of Belabo Police Station.
However, other passengers of the boat managed to swim ashore but the trio drowned, he said.
Locals rescued the children and rushed them to Bhairab Upazila Health Complex where the duty doctors declared them dead, the OC added.

15-km tailback on Dhaka-Chattogram highway
Cumilla, Sept 20 (UNB) – Hundreds of passengers have been suffering a lot as a 15-kilometre-long long tailback was created on Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Daudkandi upazila since Thursday morning.
The tailback was seen stretching from Hasanpur in Daudkandi upazila to the eastern side of Meghna Bridge in Munshiganj point since the dawn due to the heavy pressure of vehicles on the highway ahead of the weekend, said Abul Kalam Azad, officer-in-charge of Daudkandi Highway police.
Besides, the vehicles moving on the highway are using one lane following the construction works on the road near Meghna Bridge, he added.
Youth beaten to death in Dohar
Keraniganj, Sept 20 (UNB) – A young man was beaten to death allegedly by his rivals over the previous enmity in Dohar upazila on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Foysal Sheikh, 18, son of Majnu Sheikh of Muksudpur Shantinagar.
Sazzad Hossain, officer-in-charge of Dohar Police Station, said Foysal’s family had an enmity with Munni, 1st wife of Foysal’s elder brother.
As a sequel to that, Munni’s associates intercepted Foysal while he was going for a football match and beat him up mercilessly, leaving the victim dead on the spot.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Mitford Hospital morgue.
