Govt school in Chandpur charging students Tk 50 per jab of vaccine!
Parents and students alleged the authority of Chhengarchar Government Model High School in North Matlab upazila of Chandpur of taking Tk 50 per Covid-19 vaccine jab to students.
When asked, Benzir Ahmed, headmaster of the only government school in the area, even accepted the allegation saying, “To meet the many expenses of conducting the vaccine campaign from our school as a center we are taking Tk 50 from the students per jab.”

Parents claimed some students had to pay more than Tk 50.
There are 1,000 students currently enrolled in the school which indicates only from its own students the authority could collect Tk 50,000 in this regard.
The government directed to vaccinate the school students on an emergency basis by January 31 to ensure the quality of education and their attendance in the schools amid a surge in the Covid-19 cases.
Though the government is vaccinating the students free of cost, collecting money by the Chhengarchar Government Model High School authority has agitated the parents and concerned locals.

However, Abdul Kayum Khan, Upazila Secondary Education officer told UNB he didn’t receive any complaint in this regard and will take actions after an inquiry.
Meanwhile, Md Gias Uddin patwari, District Secondary Education officer also said he had no such information and will take administrative measures if it's true.
Main accused in a Chandpur rape case evades arrest; 3 held
Police arrested three persons, including a woman, in connection with the rape of a student in Faridganj upazila of Chandpur on Sunday.
Arrestees Ejaz Hossain, 23, Sabbir Hossain, 26, and Lipi Begum, 32, were sent to jail via court on Monday, said Md Shaheed Hossain, officer-in-charge of Faridganj Police Station.
The main accused in the case, Shimul Miji, said to be a Juba League leader, however remains free. The police are said to be trying to arrest him.

It was learned from the case statement that Ejaz, Sabbir and Shimul intercepted the victim, a 16-year-old 10th-grader, on her way home from school on Sunday, before all three violated her at Lipi Begum's address.
The victim was told not to tell anyone - otherwise they threatened to leak videos of the incident.
The victim’s mother filed a rape case at Faridganj Police Station on Sunday evening.
2 killed in Chandpur road crash
Two teenage boys were killed when a BRTC bus hit a power tiller at Simultala in Kachua upazila of Chandpur district on Monday.
Atique Hossain, 14 and Sajib Hossain, 19 of Budhunda village in the upazila died on the spot, according to police and eyewitnesses.

Additional superintendent of Chandpur Police, Sudipta Roy, said the accident occurred around 11 am when the Dhaka-bound BRTC bus hit the power tiller, leaving two workers killed on the spot.
On information, police recovered the bodies and sent those to the local hospital morgue.

Schoolgirl 'gang-raped' in Chandpur on way from school: police
A 10th grader has allegedly been gang-raped by three youths on her way from school at a village of Faridganj upazila in Chandpur District, according to a complaint received by police.
According to the girl’s family, the incident occurred on Saturday when the girl was returning home from school at noon. On the way, “the miscreants picked the girl and, took her to Lipi Begum's house, where they raped her hands tied and mouth covered with a cloth. They also recorded the video of the alleged crime.
The survivor alleged that Lipi Begum, 32, wife of Farooq of the same village, had assisted in it.

The alleged rapists are- Shimul, 24, son of Harun Mizi of Saisanga village of the upazila, Ijaz Hossain, 23, son of Bahar Patwari of Maizer Bari in Noapara village and Sabbir Hossain, 24, of Ashta village.
They threatened to spread the video on the internet if the girl disclosed the matter to anyone.
"The victim filed a complaint on Sunday afternoon in connection with the incident and efforts were being made to arrest the accused”, said Mohammad Shahid Hossain, officer-in-charge of Faridganj Police Station.
Sexual assaults on women continue unabated in Bangladesh, despite the government introduced death penalty for rapes in 2020.

Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) data shows that 1,018 children were raped in 2020 alone, but only 683 police cases had been filed. Also, 116 survivors were six years old or below.
Overall, 1,627 rape cases were reported in 2020 and 53 of the women were killed by the perpetrators while 14 took their own lives, as per the data.
However, ASK's data is just the tip of the iceberg, according to aid agencies, who report that most women are too afraid to report rape.
UP polls violence: another dies in Chandpur
A person who was seriously injured during the election violence in Chandpur's Haimchar Upazila Algi Uttar union, died while undergoing treatment at a hospital on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Md Mizan Gazi, 55, son of Shahadat Gazi of the union.
He died at around 10 am, said the resident doctor of Chandpur Sadar Hospital Dr Rubel.
Mizan was injured on January 5 when the supporters of two rival groups clashed during the polls outside Mahila Dakhil Madrasa Center in Jamila area of the union.

On January 5, two people were killed in separate incidents at Kachua and Haimchar upazila in violence during the UP elections.
One of the deceased, identified as Sharif Hossain, 18, was stabbed dead during the clash outside Hatirbandh Kendra at Sachar Union of Kachua Upazila, said additional superintendent of police Sudip Roy.
Another deceased identified as Mir Hossain (42), a cement-rod trader of Shariyatpur’s Palang was killed at Ishanbala Ward-6 of Nilkamal Union in Haimchar Upazila, said Mahbubur Rahman Mollah, officer-in-charge (OC) of Haimchar Police Station.

In the fifth phase, Union Parishad elections took place in 29 unions of Chandpur where 162 candidates contested the polls for the post of chairman and 1,412 for the posts of general members and reserved members.
Parts of Chandpur town protection dam collapse
A portion of Chandpur town protection dam has collapsed into the Meghna River, triggering panic among local people.
Concrete Cement (CC) blocks of 25 meters area were washed away by the Meghna River near Chandpur Madrasa road around 6am on Sunday within 10 minutes, said local people.

Mamun Hawladar, additional executive engineer of Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB), said at least 25 meters area collapsed into the river and the surrounding area is also vulnerable.
“Dumping of CC blocks started on Monday morning. We have 14,700 CC blocks in stock,” said the official.

However, there is nothing to panic, the official added.
Deputy Commissioner Anjana Khan Majlish visited the spot.
Teen killed as bike ride turns fatal for 3 minors in Chandpur
A bike ride to a local market in Chandpur turned tragic for three friends, all minors, on Thursday noon as their bike crashed into a tree, killing one on the spot and injuring two others.
The accident occurred near the Badarpur area on the Hajiganj-Kachua-Gouripur road of Hajiganj upazila.
The deceased was identified as Osman Gani, son of Tajul Islam of Mulpara village in Faridganj upazila. Arif Hossain,17, and Rony,17, his friends from Mokimabad village -- are being treated at a hospital.
"The three friends were going to Hajiganj Bazar on the bike when the one riding it lost control of the two-wheeler and rammed a roadside tree, leaving all of them severely injuries," said Harun Ur Rashid, officer-in-charge of Hajiganj police station.
Locals rescued the three and took them to Upazila Health Complex, where Gani was declared dead on arrival. "The two injured have been shifted to Cumilla Medical College Hospital," said Dr Shoeb Ahmed Chishti, chief medical officer of Upazila Health Complex.
The body of the deceased was sent for an autopsy, said OC Harun.
Bus hits motorbike killing 3 on Chandpur-Cumilla highway
Three youths riding a motorbike on way to a tourist spot were killed after a collision with a speeding bus on Chandpur-Cumilla highway on Friday, police said.
The accident near Hajiganj’s Dherra CNG station occurred at around 1.30 pm during the Jumma prayers.
The deceased were identified as Sohag Hossain, 30, Md. Monir Hossain, 30, and Md. Sujan Hossain, 28, residents of Belashwar area of Chandina in Cumilla.

Citing eyewitnesses Hajiganj police sub-inspector Joynal Abedin six young men were going from Chandina in Cumilla to Chandpur Molhead tourist spot on two motorcycles. At Dherra under Hajiganj one of the motorcycles collided head-on with a passenger bus coming from the opposite leaving three riders of a bike dead on the spot.
Hundreds of vehicles were stranded on road after the accident.

Meanwhile, locals managed to seize the bus but the driver managed to escape.
Joynal said that the bodies were taken to the police station.
Legal action would be taken after the autopsy, he said.
3 college students dead in Chandpur bus-auto collision
Three college students were killed and two others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in the Bishwa road area of Chandpur's Kachua upazila early on Thursday morning.
The deceased were identified as Urmi Majumder (24), Rifat Hossain (22), and Saddam Hossain (28). All the deceased were students of Cumilla Victoria College and residents of Kachua upazila.

Eye-witnesses said the accident occurred around 8am when the Dhaka-bound BRTC bus hit the Cumilla-bound auto-rickshaw coming from the opposite direction in the Bishwa road area.
The impact of the crash was such that two students travelling in the auto died on the spot while three others, including its driver, sustained injuries, police said.

The injured were rushed to Kachua Upazila Health Complex where another student was declared dead on arrival.
Mohiuddin, officer-in-charge of the Kachua police station, said both the vehicles have been seized. "A probe is on."
Chandpur road crash leaves two dead
Two people were killed and another was injured when a truck rammed a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Chandpur-Cumilla regional highway at Khazuria in Kachua upazila on Saturday night.
The deceased were identified as auto-rickshaw driver Sohel Mia, 36 and Gokul Sarkar, 32, of Haziganj upazila.
The truck hit the CNG run auto-rickshaw around 10:30 pm, leaving two people dead on the spot and another injured, said Mohiuddin, officer-in-charge of Kachua Police Station.

Injured Ripon was taken to Cumilla Medical College and Hospital.
Vehicular movement on the highway remained suspended for an hour following the incident.
On information, police recovered the bodies.
