Covid-19: Bangladesh reports 29 more deaths with 8,345 fresh infections
Bangladesh logged 29 more Covid-linked deaths with 8,345 fresh cases in 24 hours till Sunday morning.
The daily positivity rate slightly declined to 21.50 from Saturday’s 23.83 percent after testing 38,247 samples during the period, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
On Saturday, Bangladesh reported 36 more Covid-linked deaths with 8,359 fresh cases.
The fresh numbers took the country’s total fatalities to 28,589 while the caseload mounted to 1,861,532.

Among the new deceased, 15 were men and 14 women.
Fourteen of the deaths were reported in Dhaka division while four each in Chattogram and Khulna, three in Rangpur, two each in Mymensingh, and one each in Rajshahi and Sylhet divisions.
Meanwhile, the mortality rate remained static at 1.54 percent.
However, the recovery rate slightly increased to 86.09 percent with the recovery of 8,159 more patients during the 24-hour period.
In January, the country reported 322 Covid-linked deaths and 2,13,294 new cases while 19,112 recovered from the disease, according to the DGHS.
On January 28, Bangladesh logged its earlier highest daily positivity rate at 33.37% reporting 15,440 cases and 20 deaths.

On December 9 last year, Bangladesh again logged zero Covid-related death after nearly three weeks as the pandemic was apparently showing signs of easing.
The country reported this year’s first zero Covid-related death in a single day on November 20 last year along with 178 infections since the pandemic broke out in Bangladesh in March 2020.
Besides, the country registered the highest daily caseload of 16,230 on July 28 last year, while the highest number of daily fatalities was 264 on August 10 last year.
NTAC places 5 recommendations to contain Covid surge
The National Technical Advisory Committee (NTAC) on Covid-19 has placed five recommendations to contain the current Covid surge in Bangladesh.
The committee issued the recommendations following its 53rd meeting held on Wednesday.

The recommendations are:
- Covid-19 positive patients will remain in isolation for up to 10 days after showing covid symptoms. Besides, people who come in contact with Covid patients with no symptoms do not need to be quarantined, but they must wear a tight mask.
- The committee recommended the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) to increase surveillance in all ports of entry, including airports, to ensure proper health guidelines issued by the government.
- All-time emergency treatment of all Covid-19 and non-Covid patients in all government hospitals is recommended to be ensured.
- It is recommended to take steps for the implementation of the Cabinet’s notification regarding covid restrictions by involving all stakeholders such as leaders of Transport Owners’ Association, Shop Owners’ Association, and Restaurant Owners’ Association.
- The committee recommended the government to distribute free masks to the public to ensure that people wear masks. It is also recommended to the public representatives and religious representatives to encourage people to wear masks properly and follow other hygiene rules.
Covid situation in Bangladesh
Bangladesh reported 12 more Covid-linked deaths with 9,500 fresh cases in 24 hours till Wednesday morning following a continuous rise in its infection rate.

The positivity rate in the country further increased to 25.11 per cent from Tuesday’s 23.98 per cent after testing 37,573 samples, according to the Directorate general of health Services (DGHS).
The fresh numbers took the country’s total fatalities to 28,176 while the caseload mounted to 1,642, 294 on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh’s total tally of Omicron cases reached 55 with the detection of 22 more cases till Monday, according to GISAID, a global initiative on sharing all influenza data.

Covid positivity rate in Bangladesh rises to 1.87%
Bangladesh reported one more Covid-linked death and 352 fresh cases in 24 hours till Wednesday morning.
The detection of the new cases after testing 18,938 samples took the daily-case positivity rate to 1.87 per cent during the period, said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The positivity rate was 1.39 per cent with 291 fresh cases being reported on Tuesday.
With the new numbers, the total fatalities rose to 28,052 while the caseload mounted to 15,81,986, according to the DGHS.
Meanwhile, the mortality rate remained static at 1.77 per cent during the period.
Besides, the recovery rate remained steady at 97.75 per cent with the recovery of 281 more patients during the 24-hour period.

Bangladesh logged six more Covid-related deaths along with 277 fresh cases in 24 hours till Wednesday morning.
With the latest cases, the daily-case positivity rate declined to 1.35 per cent from Tuesday’s 1.45 per cent, said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
With the fresh numbers, the total fatalities rose to 28,016 while the caseload mounted to 15,78,288.

Among the latest deceased, four were men and two women. Three deaths were reported from Dhaka division while one each was from Chattogram, Rajshahi and Sylhet divisions.

Among them, 1,65,072 students, aged from 12-17, have fully been vaccinated while 10,10,083 students received the first dose so far.

Meanwhile, the government will administer Covid-19 booster doses to senior citizens aged above 60, but the date for the campaign has not yet been decided, Health Minister Zahid Maleque said on Tuesday.
“We’ll sit later to set the date. We’ve a plan to provide booster dose to those who are seriously ill,” he said while talking to reporters after an inter-ministerial meeting on Covid-19 at the ministry.
He said the meeting discussed measures on how to prevent Omicron, a new powerful variant of the infection, from entering the country and contain its spread.
Dengue: 69 more hospitalized in 24 hrs
Sixty-nine new dengue patients were hospitalised in 24 hours until Tuesday morning, health authorities said.
The number of fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease remained unchanged at 98 in the current year as no fresh death was reported during the period, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Of the deceased, 90 people have died in Dhaka division alone, two each in Chattogram, Mymensingh and Khulna divisions and one each in Rajshahi and Barishal divisions.
Fifty nine new patients are undergoing treatment in hospitals in Dhaka while the remaining 10 cases have been reported from outside the division.
Some 373 patients diagnosed with dengue are receiving treatment in the country as of Tuesday.

Of them, 268 patients are receiving treatment at different hospitals in the capital while the remaining 105 were listed outside Dhaka.
Since January, some 27,222 patients have been admitted to different hospitals with dengue in the country. So far, 26,751 dengue patients have left hospitals after recovery, said DGHS.
Covid-related death in Bangladesh drops to 1

However, public health experts fear a slow pace of vaccination, waning vaccine immunity, disregard for Covid safety protocols, reopening of schools and increased travel may set the stage for another Covid wave in Bangladesh -- a trend many European countries are witnessing now.

Public health experts have, however, warned that the current downward trend of Covid-19 cases in Bangladesh could well be the obvious calm before a cataclysmic storm.
Their fear centres around children below 12 who remain out of the vaccine coverage and the elderly people, according to the experts.
