Health rules to be maintained till 100 percent vaccination achieved: DGHS
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has said Covid-19 infection in the country is decreasing but health guidelines will be maintained till 100 percent of the population gets vaccinated.
DGHS spokesperson and Director (disease control) Dr Nazmul Islam said this Sunday during the regular health bulletin of the directorate on Covid infection situation in the country.
“Declining infection rate is a hopeful sign but there is no reason to feel complacency,” he said.
In the last seven days 126,840 samples have been tested for Covid-19 which is 12 percent lower than the previous seven days, he said.
Dr Nazmul said, the number of new infections has decreased 32 percent in the last seven days from the previous week, meanwhile the number of fatalities has decreased 21 percent.

In the last seven days daily infection rate mostly remained below 2 percent except on October 19 when 2.20 percent infection rate was reported, he added.
“Overall the infection rate is showing a downtrend for a month which is still continuing ," said the DGHS spokesperson.
Since January this year most of the infections were logged in July and August while the country saw 336,226 and 223,480 cases respectively, he said.
“Compared to that, just 11,506 cases reported so far in October is quite an improvement”, said the DGHS official.

Number of patients in Covid dedicated hospitals have declined and people are seeking telemedicine services less now, he said.
Replying to a question he said Bangladesh cannot be considered Covid-free yet as every day new patients are being detected.
In the last week of the current month or at the beginning of next month they will be able to inform the total number of school going students who have registered for Covid-19 vaccine, said the DGHS director.
Dengue: 275 more hospitalized, no new death reported in 24 hrs
Although no death from dengue was reported in the past 24 hours till early Monday, 275 more people were hospitalised with the mosquito-borne disease, said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Among the new patients, 220 were admitted to government and private hospitals in Dhaka while the remaining 55 cases were reported from outside the division, according to DGHS.
Some 1,233 patients diagnosed with dengue fever are receiving treatment in the country as of Monday morning, according to DGHS.
Of them, 1,074 patients are receiving treatment at different hospitals in the capital while the remaining 159 were listed outside Dhaka.
This year’s total death toll from dengue remained static at 52.

Among the dead 48 were in Dhaka city alone, two in Chattogram division, one in Khulna and one in Rajshahi.
Some 12,091 patients have been admitted to different hospitals with dengue since January.
So far, 10,806 dengue patients have been released from hospitals after recovery, said the DGHS.

266 more dengue patients hospitalised in 24 hrs: DGHS
Although no death from dengue was reported in 24 hours till early Tuesday, 266 more people were hospitalised with the mosquito-borne disease, said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Among the new patients, 220 were admitted to government and private hospitals in Dhaka while the remaining 46 cases were reported from outside the Dhaka division.
According to the DGHS, 10,356 patients have been diagnosed with dengue this year and 42 of them died.
Of the deceased, 38 were from Dhaka division, two from Chattogram division, one each from Khulna and Rajshahi divisions.

Some 1015 patients diagnosed with dengue fever are receiving treatment in Dhaka as of Tuesday morning, the DGHS said.
Of them, 187 patients are receiving treatment at different hospitals outside Dhaka.

Dhaka receives 56 lakh Sinopharm vaccine doses
Around 56 lakh doses of Sinopharm vaccine arrived in Dhaka from China early Tuesday.
A Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight carrying 55,93,650 doses of the vaccine landed at Shahjalal International Airport around 2:10 am, said Line Director of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) and Director of vaccination progrmme Dr Shamsul Haq.
He said the vaccine doses were procured from China and special arrangements have been made for their preservation.

China has provided 2.1 million doses of Sinopharm vaccine as a gift to Bangladesh, 3.4 million doses under the COVAX facility, and 8 million doses as part of an arrangement of a large-scale commercial purchase so far.
Till now, 13.5 million Sinopharm vaccines have arrived from China. Of them, 1.1 million shots were received under the COVAX facility.
Bangladesh is now administering vaccines developed by four companies – AstraZeneca, Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and Sinopharm.

The government has administered at least 26,129,187 doses of Covid vaccines – enough to have vaccinated around 7.8% of the country's population, assuming every person needs two doses.
Bangladesh has administered 9,842,979 shots of Sinopharm as the first dose and 1,837,817 as the second dose so far.
Dengue: 184 more hospitalised in 24 hrs
Although no death from dengue was reported in 24 hours till early Friday, 184 more people were hospitalised with the mosquito-borne disease, said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Among the new patients, 169 were admitted to government and private hospitals in Dhaka while the remaining 15 cases were reported from outside the Dhaka division.
According to the DGHS, 9,304 patients have been diagnosed with dengue this year and 40 of them died.
Of the deceased, 36 were from Dhaka city, two from Chattogram division, one each from Khulna and Rajshahi divisions.

Some 1,032 patients diagnosed with dengue fever are receiving treatment in the country as of Friday morning, the DGHS said.
Of them, 905 patients are receiving treatment at different hospitals in the capital while the remaining 127 were listed outside Dhaka.

The death toll from dengue fever rises to 37 with one more death reported in 24 hours until Monday morning, according to a report of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
A total of 276 new patients were admitted to different hospitals during the period, it said.
Among the new patients, 243 were admitted to government and private hospitals in Dhaka while the remaining 33 cases were reported from outside the division, according to DGHS.
Of the deceased, 33 died alone in Dhaka city, two in Chattogram division, one in Khulna and one in Rajshahi.

Some 1,146 patients diagnosed with dengue fever are receiving treatment in the country as of Monday morning, according to DGHS.
Most of the cases have been reported in the capital so far, said the health authorities.
Of them, 1,059 patients are receiving treatment at different hospitals in the capital while the rest were listed outside Dhaka.
Some 8,317 patients have been admitted to different hospitals with dengue since January, and 7,134of them have been released after they recovered from the disease.
Six hospitals declared Dengue-dedicated
Amid the worrying rise in dengue patients in hospitals, the DGHS on Monday set aside six hospitals of Dhaka city for treating ailment from the mosquito-borne disease, a notification said.

The six dedicated hospitals are: Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital, Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master General Hospital at Tongi in Gazipur; Railway General Hospital at Kamalapur, Dhaka, 20-bed Aminbazar Govt Hospital in Dhaka, Lalkuthi Hospital at Mirpur in Dhaka, and 31-bed Kamrangirchar Hospital in Dhaka.

The death toll from Dengue has reached 30 with the death of four more patient in the past 24 hours, said a report of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Wednesday.
A total of 273 new patients were admitted to different hospitals during the period, it said.
Among the new patients, 273 were admitted to government and private hospitals in Dhaka while the remaining 33 cases were reported from outside the division, according to DGHS.
The country has been seeing over 200 dengue patients per day for the last 17 days since August 1.

Most of the cases have been reported in the capital so far, said the health authorities.
Of them, 1110 patients are receiving treatment at different hospitals in the capital while the rest were listed outside Dhaka.

Some 6,956 patients have been admitted to different hospitals with dengue since January, and 5,733 of them have been released after they recovered from the disease.
DGHS worried over dengue situation
The Directorate General of Health Services(DGHS) on Wednesday expressed concern over the current Dengue situation.
“So far this year, 6,450 dengue patients have been hospitalized in the country. We have recorded a total of 28 deaths among them. It is a matter of grave concern,” said DGHS spokesperson Md. Nazmul Islam.

“We all witnessed how hard the dengue situation hit us in 2019. We are on the brink of similar situation this year,” he said.
However the imminent disaster can be avoided if the concerned authorities including the city corporations speed up their anti-mosquito drives and people remain careful, the spokesperson said.
If someone suffers from fever they should immediately undergo dengue test alongside Covid-19 one. Besides, this test is free at government hospitals of the country,” he added.
Regarding Covid situation in the last seven days, he said the infection rate was 23.45 percent on August 11 and it was a little over 19 percent as of yesterday.
“These are positive signs as statistics are showing the infection rate has already started to decrease,” Nazmul said.

The lowest number of patients was recorded in February with only 1006 Covid cases and the highest inJuly with 3, 34,228 cases.
The number of cases found in August so far is 1,72,912 , he added.
Covid kills 237 more in Bangladesh as Delta strain raging
Bangladesh reported 237 Covid-19 related deaths as health authorities came up with their 24-hour report on Wednesday, a figure that shows how bad the situation is in the country.
On August 5, the country reported 264 deaths shattering its previous single-day record of 258 Covid-related deaths on July 27 and it was repeated on August 10 when the country logged 268 deaths.
Besides, 10,420 more people came out Covid positive during the period after testing 44,430 samples, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The fresh numbers pushed Bangladesh’s total fatality to 23,398 and total cases to 1,386,782.
The case positivity rate during the 24-hour period fell a little to 23.45 % from Tuesday’s 23.58 %, while the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends a 5% or below rate. The recovery rate, however, rose to 90% from 89.71%, with the recovery of 13,313 people during the period, said the DGHS.
However, the case fatality rose to 1.69 % during the period after remaining static at 1.68 % for a few days.
Deaths in Dhaka division crossed 100 on a single day with 105 people dying of Covid-19 during the 24-hour period.
Besides, 54 people died in Chattogram, 23 in Sylhet, 20 in Khulna, 11 in Mymensingh, 10 in Rajshahi, eight in Barishal and 6 died in Rangpur divisions.

Among them, 134 were men and 103 were women.
Of them, one was under 10 years of age, two were between 11-20, four were within 21-30, 14 between 31-40, 24 between 41-50, 46 between 51-60 and 146 were above 60 years of age, the DGHS added.
Chaos at vaccination centres
Vaccination centres across the country drew huge crowds on the 5th day of the mass vaccination drive, creating a chaotic situation everywhere and raising the risk of the virus transmission.
After a reality check at different vaccination centers, UNB correspondents saw long queues of people standing close to each other with little or no regard to social distancing rules.
Hundreds of jab-seekers, both male and female, turned up at the small vaccination centres with or without online registrations, overwhelming its medical staff.
The medical staff at the vaccination centres and the vaccine aspirants pointed fingers at each other because of mismanagement and slow pace of vaccination.
According to the UNB correspondents, the number of staff was too inadequate to smoothly vaccinate such a huge number of people.
As the ruthless Delta variant of Covid-19 keeps spreading like wildfire, Bangladesh on Saturday kicked off another phase of its mass vaccination drive aimed at inoculating 35 lakh people in six days.
However, the drive has not been free of controversies as mismanagement and anomalies across the country became a topic of discussions in the last few days.

UNB Chattogram correspondent reports that a huge crowd was seen at the vaccine centres in the city on Wednesday
The vaccine seekers were seen waiting in front of the vaccination centres in long queues amid rain, causing immense sufferings to the people standing there for taking covid jabs.
According to the District Civil Surgeon office, some 10 people die of Covid-19 in the city on average every day while 800-900 are being infected.
During a recent visit to some vaccine centres, the UNB correspondent found hundreds of people waiting in front of Chattogram City Corporation General Hospital centre in Sadarghat area of the port city.
Rahim Sobahan, a 57-year-old man, said, “He had been standing in a queue since 8 am and got the chance to enter the vaccine centre around 11 am.”
The same scenario was seen in the city's Bandar, EPZ, Patenga, Halishahor vaccination centres.
Hazera Begum, another vaccine aspirant, said “The vaccine centre is overcrowded and I can’t understand whether I came here to secure myself from Covid or being infected with Covid.”
