Cautionary measures taken at Sonamasjid land port to prevent new sub-variant of Covid-19
Sonamsjid land port authorities have taken additional cautionary measures to prevent the spread of Omicron BF.7, a new sub-variant of Covid-19.
Following the instruction of the Director General of Health Services (DGHS) some additional measures have been taken to prevent the new sub-variant of Covid-19, said Dr. SM Mahmudur Rashid, civil surgeon of Chapainawabganj.
Indian truck drivers and their helpers are being allowed to enter the country through the border after health screening, he added.
Besides, the members of the medical teams are doing their routine works at the port, Rashid said.
Earlier on Sunday, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) issued an alert at airports, land ports and seaports as the new sub-variant BF.7 of Omicron was detected in China and India.
It also asked the authorities concerned to take steps so that people, coming from those countries, go through tests and digital thermal scanner and thermometer are used at the entry points of the country.
Meanwhile, four returnees from China were sent to isolation after they tested positive for Covid-19 at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka Monday (December 26) afternoon.
Fisherman drowns in Mahananda River
A fishermen drowned in the Mahananda River while fishing at Barogharia in Sadar upazila of Chapainawabganj district on Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Shukuddi, 65, son of Aftab Ali of the upazila.

Shukuddi went to the river by a boat for catching fish in the morning, said Saber Ali, deputy assistant director of Chapainawabganj Fire Service and Civil Defense.
At one stage, he fell into the river from the boat and went missing.

On information, drivers from local fire service rushed to the spot and fished out his body from the river around 10:30 am, said Saber Ali.
Chapainawabganj man held with Tk 48.4 lakh heroin
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) claimed to have detained a man and seized 2.48kg heroin worth Tk48.4 lakh from his possession in Chapainawabganj's Shibganj Saturday.
The detainee was identified as Md Mizanur Rahman, 27, from Noldobri village of Shibganj upazila.

On information, BGB conducted a drive along the Chakpara border around 5am and detained Mizanur along with heroin as he tried to escape, Lieutenant Colonel Amir Hossain Mollah, commanding officer of Rohanpur 59 BGB Battalion in Chapainawabganj, said.
Legal action will be taken against Mizanur, he added.
Chapainawabganj: Man held with fake Bangladeshi & Indian currency notes
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) on Thursday detained a man with Indian fake currency notes worth Rs 1.87 lakh and Bangladeshi fake currency notes worth Tk 11,950 from Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj.
The detainee has been identified as Shamim, 40, a resident of the upazila.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of Rab-5 from Chapainawabganj camp conducted a drive in front of Sonamasjid Degree College in Shahbazpur of the upazila around 10pm and detained Shamim with the Indian and Bangladeshi fake currency notes, Rab-5 said in a press briefing.
Steps are underway to file a case at Shibganj police station against the detainee, said Rab sources.
130 sued over BNP activists-police clash in C'nawabganj
A case has been filed against 130 people in connection with the clash between BNP activists and police in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj that left five people including a cop injured on Sunday.
Sub-inspector of Shibganj Police Station Sihab filed the case at the police station Sunday night accusing 130 BNP activists including 100 unidentified ones, said Zobayer Ahmed, officer-in-charge (OC) of the police station.
Police have so far arrested 12 people in this connection, the OC added.

On Sunday, BNP leaders and activists gathered near Islami Bank Mor of Shibganj Bazar to hold a rally as part of their central programme protesting the price hike of daily commodities including oil, gas, fertilizers and the murder of Swechchasebak Dal leader Abdur Rahim and Chhatra Dal president Noor-e Alam in Bhola.
At one stage, police obstructed them as a huge traffic jam was created there due to the rally.
The leaders and activists pelted brickbats targeting police, triggering a clash that left at least 5 people injured, said police.
Later, police lobbed tear gas shells and rubber bullets to bring the situation under control.
Sonamasjid Land Port fire put out
A fire that had broken out inside Sonamasjid Land Port in Chapainawabganj Wednesday afternoon was doused.
Three goods-laden trucks, including two Indian trucks, were affected by the blaze.
Port sources said the fire originated from an Indian truck loaded with bleaching powder at 3:30pm.
On information, firefighters of Shibganj upazila fire service responded to the blaze and could put out the flames within half an hour.
Quaderi Kibria, station leader of Shibganj upazila fire service, said they primarily suspect that the fire originated from a truck loaded with bleaching powder due to overheating.
Special cattle train service starts on Chapainawabganj-Dhaka route
A special cattle train from Chapainawabganj left for Dhaka Wednesday with 22 sacrificial animals ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
District Livestock Officer Mostafizur Rahman inaugurated the service at Chapainawabganj Railway Station in the afternoon.
Chapainawabganj Assistant Station Master Obaidullah said the train left for the capital with 18 cows and four goats.
The cattle train will leave Chapainawabganj Station at 4.30pm and reach the capital by night every day. It will leave Tejgaon for Chapainawabganj at 5am.

The transportation cost for each cow has been fixed at Tk591.50 and each goat at Tk296.
The train service will continue until July 8, Obaidullah added.
The special service was launched on the Chapainawabganj-Rajshahi-Dhaka (Tejgaon) route on July 17 last year to transport sacrificial animals at a low cost considering the Covid-19 situation.
Samrat: The king bull of Chapainawabganj
Ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, Samrat is hogging the limelight in Chapainawabganj’s Shibganj upazila.
Samrat isn't any other ordinary bull, technically a steer, a neutered male popular for its meat – the cattle weighs around 40 maund.
Zulfikar Ali, its owner, said he reared the bull in his dairy in Shahbazpur village of the district's Shibganj upazila that he started some five years ago.

Special Mango express train with 3,000 kgs of mangoes leaves for Dhaka
The special mango train with 3,000 kgs of mangoes left for Dhaka from Rahanpur Rail Station in Chapainawabganj on Monday afternoon, railway authorities said.
The special train service for transporting mangoes from Chapainawabganj to Dhaka inaugurated around 4 pm and Chief Transportation Officer of Bangladesh Railway West zone, Shahidul Islam inaugurated the service.
Every day, the special mango train will leave the Rahanpur station around 4 pm and it will leave for Dhaka from Chapainawabganj rail station around 6 pm.

Traders have to pay Tk 1.31 per kgs of mango to avail the transportation.
Besides, other goods including fruits and vegetables can be transported by the special train.
The train will make a stopover at Chapainawabganj, Amnura Junction, Kakonhat, Rajshahi, Sardah, Arani, Akkelpur, Bangabandhu West Bridge, Joydebpur and Dhaka Airport Rail Station for loading and unloading goods, said Mamun, Station Master of Rahanpur Railway Station.

The government has introduced the mango special train service in June 2020 on Chapainawabganj-Dhaka route aiming to transport mangoes at a low price.
Union worker 'ends life' in Chapainawabganj
Police have recovered the body of a union worker from Nachol upazila social service office in Chapainawabganj.
The deceased was identified as Shamim Hossain, 33, of the upazila.

Unable to contact Shamim, one of his friends came to his office and found his body hanging with a rope from the window grill around 9pm on Wednesday, said Mintu Rahman, officer-in-charge of Nachol police station.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to the Chapainawabganj Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy, said the OC.

Police suspect that Shamim committed suicide as there were no injury marks in the body. "However, we are waiting for the autopsy report,” he added.
