Dhaka, Feb 13 (UNB) - As part of its countrywide scheduled programme, BNP leaders and activists now on Tuesday decided to stage a sit-in programme in front of its Nayapaltan central office protesting the jailing of its chairperson Khaleda Zia in a graft case.
BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said that police verbally gave them permission to hold the programme on the premises of the Institute of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh at Kakrail.
As police did not get them written permission, they now took decision to hold the programme in front of their party office, said the BNP leader.
BNP leaders and activists have already started gathering in front of the party office to stage the sit –in-programme.
The party leaders and followers will observe the programme from 11am to 12 noon.
On Saturday, Rizvi announced a three-day protest programme at a press briefing at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office.
As part of the programmes, the party leaders and followers will also observe a hunger strike from 9am to 5pm on Wednesday across the country.
On Thursday last, a special court here convicted Khaleda and sentenced her to five years’ imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
